Does anyone on here have experience with an IUD.

I can not use conventional b/c methods because of my Lupus, so I am considering the IUD as DH and I cant afford another baby after this one is born, at least not for a while!

Any input?

I had one years ago and had no problems with it. Worked great, no side effects. They have better ones now than when I had mine. I highly reccomend one.

My sister got pregnant while on it... No problems during the pregnancy, just defeated its purpose, I guess...

A friend got pregnant last year while she had an IUD too, and she ended up miscarrying at about 14 weeks.

Other people I know who've used it have said it's very convenient and had no problems.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I've only had mine since about June. Apart from the first three months where I had a lot of spotting (which they say can happen), I've had no problems. After that three months, I can't even tell I have my period. I know it's not really long enough to say, but I haven't gotten pregnant.
I have the Mirena, with the hormones.

Maybe this is a really crazy suggestion, but have the two of you discussed your husband getting a vasectomy? He could have sperm frozen in case you two wanted another baby in the future. That way you would not be at risk for problems with any hormones (unless you went with a plain copper IUD) or an ectopic pregnancy.

Doesn't appeal to me either. I have the Implanon implant, been using it for almost 10 years now and happy with it - don't have to remember to take a pill daily or change a patch etc.

Once we have our second baby I'll be going for Implanon too - seems like the most effective, easiest option to me!

never liked the stories I heard about IUD's - maybe they have better designs and materials since I needed birth control way back when ...

maybe sharing responsibility would be a safe form of b/c ... such as a condom and a diaphram?

yes, I'm laughing - may as well just abstain, yeah, right!

My friend had the new mirena coil last may after she had her daughter. She has had no problems with it whatsoever and she said she never felt a thing when they put it it. She would recommend it to anyone, its just I suppose everyone's body reacts differently but I have heard that the mirena coil is supposed to be good. I have the implant. x

I don't have an IUD (fiance and I know we don't want kids and he got a vasectomy about a year ago, after I was on the pill for about 10 years) but my sister has had one for a couple of years now and hasn't had any problems. She has Paraguard, the non-hormonal one. A few other friends have it too, for roughly the same amount of time, and no one's gotten pregnant yet!

They all said they bled heavily during their first 2-3 periods after getting it implanted, but then it leveled off and no problems since then.

I have the Mirena coil, have had it for just over a month, so it's all settling in. Have had some spotting, and a few cramps at the beginning.

I have the Mirena (hormone) IUD for just over 2 years now and I have no problems. The first 6 months or so my periods were irregular, but now I don't even have one. They are good for 5 years and I'll definitely be getting another after this one. They are much safer and have far less side effects than taking the pill.

Did the implant leave a visible scar? I am curious because I'm thinking of asking about it.

I tried two different ones, but many years ago. They were both copper - the hormone ones didn't exist then. I had cramps and heavy bleeding with both, and eventually changed my method.

My little sister got one a few months ago. She's never had a baby so they had to shove it through some kind of tissue and she threw up! She hasn't had any problems with it either as far as I know. Just spotting that lasted quite a while, and some cramps that were pretty painful.
