Hi all, well we've finally got the snow, its been snowing all day here, think we've got about 4 inches and we apparently have got snow all night and all day tomorrow. I love snow and it doesn't bother me but why are we in the UK so affected by this? I have heard all your stories from America and surrounding about all your snow that you have had and it sounds much worse than what we have got and you all seem to cope with it fine. I will say that our weather forecasts are rubbish and we have not had great warning, yesterday the weather said clear for today?? Well its definetely not clear
. How on earth have you all coped with this weather? I have enough food for a few days and am going to enjoy playing with my kids in it. I am just annoyed that we didn't have much warning-now this. xx

Weve never had snow this bad for a long time in the UK, and talking to some of the older ones at work yesterday they remember when it was over 6' high outside their homes years ago.

We don't need snow chains on car wheels because it never last that long usually, but if we had it like this every year we'd be organised like other countries

I just raked 18 inches of snow off my roof. (I will be sore tonight!) I have a long rake that is used from the ground. Its probably 15 feet long with a blade on the end. In years past after heavy snows, buildings all over the area were collapsing under the weight.

I wish we only had 4"! We will probably be covered now until March or April, unless we get a January thaw. Then, there is flooding to consider.....

Wait until you have to shovel 2 feet of the stuff - daily - for a couple of weeks.

I prefer seeing snow on holiday cards.

Thats how it is here, too. Since we dont get it often, when we do, it will shut the city down.
We are expecting snow on Thursday

Same here for us Pam! We're supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow on Thursday. Today the director of our department came into our class and told us that if school is closed on Thrs., it will be closed on Friday as well because the conditions are supposed to remain the same. I'm PRAYING we get a ton of snow so I get a little 2 day vacay!

In a side note, it is soooo unnatrually cold here in Memphis right now! I HATE it! I'll happily take a little bit of snow since we haven't had any this year, but everyone else can keep the ice!
My mom's one of those typical Southerners who has already ran to the grocery store in a panic and bought the "necessities in case we're snowed in and can't get out"
It's hilarious when people freak out over a few inches of snow, but in a warmer city like Memphis, we don't see if more than once or twice a year normally so it really does shut just about everything down! The worst thing those is the drivers....nobody around here seems to know how to drive in snow and ice so people just act crazy!! (I avoid it at all costs!)

2 weeks ago ver the Christmas holidays, Minnesota got about 2 feet of snow - a few inched each day from Wednesday thru Sunday! But we are used to having snow from November thru April. Its not so bad to shovel a few inches at a time - its really bad when you are dumped on with a lot of snow in a short period of time.

You just make sure you are stocked up on human and pet food and have warm blankets, hot chocolate and a few snow shovels around!

I need to get one of those rakes. I got a couple feet of snow and I had to get up on the roof to remove it. For the past 4 days it just kept snowing and would not stop thanks to good ol lake effect.

We have about 2 1/2 feet of snow on the ground here in our city, and tomorrow we're supposed to get another 6 inches. *groan* Again, whoever is doing the snow dance can stop. Anytime. Thanks.

Over the river and through the woods...
I heard tonight on the news that Mongolia (China) got snow for the first time in 90 years. It's just crazy!

We're still under freezing temps and snow is still coming down on the moutain I work on (but not at home thank god!). We've had about 7 years of no major snows here so we were about due but it can stop NOW!

And the worst thing is the wind, because even though they plow the roads 40-50 winds will cover them right back up.

Can I say again....I hate winter......

30" now, with 3-6" more tomorrow + wind, making it blizzard conditions.

Oh man, that is dangerous getting on a roof full of snow! Been there done that.

I got the roof done though, and for a 57 year old gal, I was not even sore the next day!

We are now under a winter storm warning. 2"-4" more inches by tomorrow morning, (no big deal) but they expect heavy lake effect snow to kick in AGAIN on Friday, with an additional 5"-10" inches on top of that 2"-4". Another 7"-14" inches on top of the over 2 feet already on the ground. Just what I wanted

That's where it belongs. Snow is not the reason I moved from Montreal to Vancouver, but it sure is a lovely bonus not to have to deal with it most years. And when we do (like last year), things tend to grind to a halt, as others have noted. AND, as others have noted, there are a lot of people on the road who don't know how to drive snow, and don't KNOW they don't know. Therefore, even though I learned in snow country, in mid winter, I still don't take the car out, because it's just not worth the aggro
of watching out for the idiots.
