I've been trying to think of a new way to temporarily hold my receipts until I enter them into the checkbook. I currently keep them in a basket which is in a cabinet so it ends up being "out of sight, out of mind". I was thinking about getting a banker's spike, but then I got to thinking my kitties may spear themselves on it. Anyone got any other ideas?

That's what I currently do with credit card receipts and then like 3 times a year, I go through the mess. I charge more than what I debit (for rewards points) but for debit/atm withdrawls/etc, I keep all of those in my wallet and then when wallet gets to be a mess, I go to the checkbook and write them all out then shred if they're old enough.

I will see what others suggest - I could use some help in this area as well.

My wallet is where mine are
When that gets full they go into the cubby on DH's desk to be stapled to the statement when it comes.

Sorry, no ideas for you. I just honestly throw them away. I check my account daily so if something is there that shouldn't be, I'm right on top of it.
As for statements and bills like that, I put them in a binder that has a pocket for each month that way I can go back at tax time and see what we can use..
I do have a friend that puts hers in her wallet and enters them (I guess) weekly. Then puts them away so she has room for more and also knows her stuff from the last week has been entered.
