We have 3 cats. 1 is a year old and 2 are 5 months old. We found out my older cat had a corn allergy. We ended up with Blue Buffalo for the older cat. When we got our kittens we switched to Blue Buffalo kitten formula and they all eat that.
I have been getting it at Petsmart and I was wondering if I could find it cheaper.
When at Costco last weekend I saw that their kirkland brand food didn't have any corn or soy in it.

Is the kirkland brand ok to use? Any opinions on it?

Thank you!

Yep, Kirkland is actually pretty decent food, and nothing beats that price!

I am running the mental checklist of dry foods at Petsmart...... Coming up empty. Hmmm.... is there anyplace else you can shop?

There are lots of other companies with kitten formulations... that may bring the price down a bit for you.... If I recall at least around here (metro Detroit) a three lb bag of BB kitten dry is like 11-12 dollars.

Hmmmm......

ETA: quick check of products at PS online... and nothing they sell in kitten formulation is corn-free except BB.

There are other dry foods to consider but I don't know if it would be a better price point than BB. The Kirkland food btw is made by Diamond... and Diamond does make a kitten formula. Some dry and wet foods indicate "All Life Stages" which means it is ok for kittens as a mainstay food.

Other kitten dry foods that I know of off the top of my head include Innova, EVO, Wellness, Eagle Pack, Before Grain, Felidae, Wysong, California Natural....... and the list goes on. Do a little digging to see what is free of corn.... like I said, I am not sure you can improve your price point too much....

Thanks Addie - Didn't know that, I thought it was all stages..... now I know! Too bad, such a great formula for the price!

I would not feed kirkland to young kittens ( ie under 8 months ) ... without mixing with a kitten

Petsmart does have Blue Buffalo Wilderness - it is an all life stage food. Also fairly low in carbs and grain free. I think there are two flavors of the wilderness dry also.

Of course try feed as much wet as you can as well

oh gosh... I'm such an idiot. I know they have to have kitten food, I just forgot for a moment. LOL

I'll take a look at the other brands.

Thanks!

The Kirkland brand is good but for some reason I know a lot of animals who just shed like crazy on it! I'd be very hesitant to switch to it if BB is working for your kitties. Having said that, if cost is really an issue, you could always give it a try and if it doesn't agree with them, you can always switch it back!

I'd also recommend mixing it with a kitten formula for your kitten to get the extra calories. The one thing I like about BB as opposed to any other brand is the cold-formed vitamins and minerals, just something to keep in mind.

The Kirkland food is actually an all stages cat food, I just found this out last week! Even though it says Adult Maintenance on the front of the bag, if you read on the back of the bag, in smaller print, it says it is formulated for all life stages, from kitten to senior. It even gives feeding directions for kittens. My kitties loved this food, but I was hesitant to feed it because I have a kitten in the house. Well I finally looked on the back of the bag last week, and actually read all the info, and I was shocked to find out my kitten could eat it too! Everyone is very happy to have that food back and they do so well on it!
