When I met my DH, he was not a cat person. I told him that if he forced me to choose between him and the cat, the cat would win because I wasn't turning her into an outdoor kitty (she was a stray cat who'd adopted me and she was already declawed by her previous owner) and she was in my life first. Thus began the socialization of the now husband into a cat lover.

Callie wasn't fond of the "new guy" and he wasn't fond of her, but he never mistreated her or yelled at her and he's always very gentle with her. However, he never liked her to be on the bed or in his lap. Ten years later, all that's changed! Here's a pic I snapped of them together last night.

She was in his lap for about 10 minutes and the entire time, my husband was talking softly to her and petting her! They've both come a long way. This never would've happened 10 years ago.

That is so lovely, well I have been with my hubby for 9 years and he still is not a cat lover and we have 5, little hope for him I think

Well I haven't totally convinced him that 3 is the perfect number of kitties. We have 2 right now, but I'd like to get a 3rd one. However, Callie (in the pic) got so stressed out when cat #2 came along it's probably best to wait anyway.

That is super sweet. They have come to an understanding that while they may not be each others first choice they are now family. So cute.

You said it best. It's heartwarming to see the two of them bonding--even if it took ten years.

That's awesome! My DH wasn't a cat person either when we first got together. He didn't HATE them, he just really preferred dogs. That was till Feb 2001 when I got a kitten and my mom basically spazzed out and put her in a box in my hallway. My DH (then BF) took her home with intentions to take her to the shelter he worked at, they bonded on the car ride there, where she sat on his shoulder and purred the whole way. We had her till Nov 2008 when she ran away
