Hi
We have a 15 month old solo kitty, we've had her since March and she is spayed. My husband was home full time during the day until the end of Oct.
Libby was an only kitten and was with her mom for a few months before they were separated- she hasn't had any other access to other cats. When we have company, Lib will hide under the bed until they are gone. My parents visited for a few weeks and after a couple of Libby warmed up to them- she is very shy.
Since my husband went back to work, Libby cries a lot- wanting to play and is OBSESSED with a toy ribbon on a stick. She drags it all around the apartment asking us to play with her- she even brings it up on the bed at 2am and drops it on my hubby's head. (
). We can play with the ribbon for over an hour and she'll sit for a bit then she starts crying again. We have started to lock her out of the bedroom at night because she won't be quiet- constant meowing. I feel bad locking her out when she is home alone from appx 7am-6pm M-F.
I guess I am trying to determine if we should get a little boy kitten as a companion but I am concerned she will hate it or be terrified it.
She free feeds on wet/dry food all day so she's not hungry.
I've used Feliway in the past but ran out a few months ago. We are moving to a new house at the end of January but won't be moving in permanently until the end of Feb. The current owners have 2 cats so we'll be painting and trying to remove the current cat smell. I was also planning on taking Libby over for a few hours every day or so, so she can get used to the house.
On the weekend, she was sitting in a cardboard box chewing on the side and I put my hand it to get her out and she sunk 4 teeth into my arm, made some strange angry meows and hissed. It was the first time she has bitten in fear/anger and the first time we have heard her hiss.
Any suggestions or advice? Or am I just being paranoid about our fur baby's well being?
