Pretty much what I thought. Predictable, but just so well executed.Originally Posted by Kellyyfaber

When I watched it there were a couple "in your face" 3D moments, but most of the time I didn't realize or forgot it was in 3D. It just gave some extra dimension to the movie. Can you go and if you start getting sick just close your eyes or step out of the theater for a moment?Originally Posted by valanhb
We were able to see a 20 minute sneak peek of the movie in 3D a couple months before it was released, which was very cool. However, the whole time I was desperately trying to find a point to focus on and felt terribly nauseous.Has anyone experienced that with this movie?
My husband loved it and really wants to see it in 3D, but there's no way I could sit through 2.5 hours of feeling like that.Of course he doesn't want to go without me.Love that man, but I don't want him to miss such a great movie because I'm a freakand can't do the 3D. But maybe it was because they jumped right into the action sequences and I couldn't adjust to it?
I want to see it, I just don't know if the 3D would be ok for me.
I'd say try it in 3D and if you start to feel sick, leave and get your money back.Originally Posted by valanhb

And spend the extra money to see it in IMAX! And arrive early so you can get right dead center!Originally Posted by TigerOnTheProwl

Easily one of the top 10 best movies I have ever seen. With unbelievable visuals, a great cast, and an intricate and relevant plot, it will satisfy almost anyone.
The film stars Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) as Corporal Jake Sully, a paraplegic Marine. Using a remote controlled body, called an Avatar, he is to convince the natives of the planet Pandora to leave their home so the government and military can mine it. After they refuse to move, the military plan to use force to kill all who oppose them. While trying to learn the ways of the natives, Jake falls in love with Neytiri, a native of Pandora, played by Zoe Saldana (Star Trek (2009), Pirates of the Caribbean). As the film progresses, he has to decide who's side he is on. Will he help the army attack the beings on Pandora, or will he help his new-found friends?
If you only see one movie this year, make it Avatar. It was truly incredible. With a budget of over $500 million, James Cameron once again delivers with one of the most expensive movies to make. And it has paid off. 3 weeks after release, it grossed over $1 billion worldwide, making it the fastest grossing film of all time.
This movie is a must see for any movie goer. It will not disappoint.
I wish we could have seen it in IMAX, I would have loved that. Our IMAX theater isn't playing it, though.Originally Posted by Persi & Alley

When I went to see Inglourious Basterds, so not that long ago. It was also deserved.Originally Posted by rapunzel47
Oh, and when was the last time you saw a movie in the theatre and there was applause from the audience at the end? Me? Not since I was a child, back in the dark ages. And it was well deserved.
You may be right, it could have been just because they jumped right into the action sequences. I get very bad motion sickness from just about everything (even backing up in the car, blair witch project made me sick, etc). Strangely enough, I did not experience motion sickness when I watched Avatar in 3D. There were moments when I would feel just a temporary wave of dizziness during certain action scenes or looking at the "monitors" they have in the movie but overall, I did OK. Like someone else said, during most of the movie, it's not the "in your face" 3D that leaves you scrambling for something to focus on. Maybe you could try it in 3D and just take your glasses off for a bit if the 3D becomes too overwhelming??Originally Posted by valanhb

ETA: I forgot to mention the special effects. I thought they were used very appropriately, not diverging from the story or making any unnecessary show off scene so that was very impressive.
