Cat attacking when he wants to go after another cat and he is stopped.

I have one problem with Kato. He does have a temper. If in the apartment a towel, blanket thrown over will stopped him.
he loves to walk on his leash. If he smells another cat he is ready to fight. I try to discourage this by going the other way. Often he will jump on my leg scratch & bite. I am sure it is another cat has his fur raises and his tail informs me he has smell another cat. He is so fast I can't get behind him to gave his neck. He doesn't do this with my husband as he doesn't like the result. suggestions would be appreciated. remember we are outside, I am alone with him. He is about to lost his walks. As a kitten a couple of strange cats attacked him first. One was a feral and attack any cat that came into the park. the other was a cat allow to run loose in the park as the owner were workers and felt it was their right.

I would stop taking him out, doesn't sound like he's enjoying it - sounds stressful.

Is he neutered? That should help to calm him if he's not done yet.

What does that mean? Hope your husband isn't hitting the cat or anything like that.

Thanks for your help. It helps to get an outside view of a behavior. I never thought of it being stressful. It is especially for me and probably for Kato as well. another thing I had forgotten was this is the mating season and there are probably female in heat out there and males ready to fight for them. Kato has been neuter since he was 4 months old. I hate to think what he would be like, if not neuter. Last year at this time we had some problems and he wasn't going for any walks. later it clear up.
The walk is Kato's enjoyment. I need to decide which is more stressful for him, encounter a cat or crying at the door for a walk. I had almost decided not to take him as he is stronger than myself.
DH has a temper; but has never mistreated him. I am not as forceful as DH. Kato doesn't challenge him as much as he does me. He knows how to get a reaction from each of us.
For example, DH brought a hassock to put his feet on. It cushion is softest I have seen. Kato decided it was his. when DH putt his feet on it there was "war" between them. the next day another hassock appear. Kato doesn't use that one. I guess you could say he won that "war". He niow allows DH to put things on his hassock as long as he doesn't want to sleep there. The second hassock botton is open. He will lay there at times; but never on the top.

Yes, I certainly hope your husband is not hurting your cat.

Stop giving him the walks. A cat does not need to be taken for walks anyway. He is exhibiting redirected aggression. If he can't get to the cat he wants to hurt, he is turning to the next best thing, your leg.

For his safety and yours, just let him be inside and give up the walking. It's not doing him any good and he may be suffering when walked by your husband. Not a good thing.

Yes, to all that. And your cat's attack on your leg is from stress, not because he wants to hurt you. Your efforts, and especially, from the sound of it, your husband's, to "get the cat off" could potentially end up damaging your relationship with the cat. He'll never understand the roughness, only the source of it.

No more walks!

Long ago, I realize that he was not trying to hurt me. He has been with us for over 7 years and still gives us headbonks, kisses. At night he sleeps at the feet of my husband or under the covers on my chest. He is a male cat and very close to the wild cat. The young males will challenge the leader at various times for the strength of the pride. At one time I tried to trace back his lineage. I got only as far as his grandparents. His grandfather came from Mountain Home, a small town near Boise. His breeder was from Boise. His mother I manage to contact the owner of his Grandmother. she said her papers were packed and would send them if she found. she had a quarrel with the breeder. I wanted no part of that. I lost contact with the breeder. She just stopped answering e-mails or her phone. I will never know what cats went into his breeding. I have never sent in his papers as I see no point for it. He had 2 sisters and one was sold and the breeder kept the other.

If he has some "cabin fever" and needs some stimulation... why not get him Da Bird. This is a great toy and really helps cats burn off energy and stress.

Another favorite in my household is The Cat Dancer. A very simple toy... but my dominant cat LOVES this thing and will play and play and play... a good way to redirect any urges he might have to go after one of the other cats.

Kato is an only cat, I have thought that another cat to keep in busy might help. At on time he did make friends with other cats. However, our age, while our apartment complex; it might be a problem. There are 8 cats heres and at least 5 dogs.
He looses interest in any thing once he decides on it. He received a large soft toy at Christmas. There is a video of it. It was gotten at Pectco. Could be your Da Bird. I didn't pay that much attention. He has it in his tree and will respond to it; but not long. he responds to the same to laser beam. he like to try and catch DH model plane; but that is a no. It wouldn't make much to damage it. He will play with my knitting; but not long as he doesn't like to get the yarn tangle around him
When we were traveling, he spent 90% of his awake time hunting. there is nothing to hunt here, not even insects. He knows the difference from artificial objects to live.
he cry at the door for a long time this morning, a walk would have stopped him for aawhile. He didn't get one as it was raining. Rain doesn't bother him.

This is the Da Bird we are talking about... You need to play with him, and the sound and the movement it makes are very unique, like of a live bird - it is different from any other wand toy.
Cats go wild for it, and if your cat likes hunting, there is no way to go wrong with it...
There is another attachment for it, in the shape of a little mouse - this one, that is my cat's absolute favorite- it drives them wild - they go nuts for it!!! Cat Catcher Attachment ...

Two words: Get it
And also, another advise: get plenty of replacement feathers, and some of those Cat Catchers.... Your kitty will LOVE Da Bird!!!
There are quite a few action shots here at TCS of cats playing with the toy... It is definitely one (if not THE ONE) of the top cat toys in the market!!

thanks for the suggestion of the DA bird. I have brought wand toys and never had the success as I did this evening with DA Bird. I haven't seen the sparkle in his eyes for a long time. I couldn't get the mouse at the local store. We seldom get to Pectco; but were near it today and I found it; but they are out of licklicities and I don't know where get others. I hide the toy; and will play more tomorrow.

Yes, Da Bird is really a whole other thing, isn't it?
That mice is really had to find indeed - if you can only get it online, get it - i am telling you, no idea why, you kitty will go bonkers! Oh, and yes, absolutely - you need to hide it!!!

I thought Kato reaction to DA bird is interesting. It has been a long time since I have seen the sparkle I saw llast night. It has been almost a year & half since he could hunt. He hunted everyday when we were traveling in the RV. This morning he wouldn't leave me alone until I got it out and play with him. Later, when he was crying to go out for a walk, I got it out and he forgot about going for a walk. He has been asking for it all day. I am limiting the times as I am played out, Kato is not. DH did a video of his reaction. I order the butterfly wand and the bag of 3 from fosters & smiths today. They have it on their site. He has never been interest very long in a toy. Thanks for the suggestion.
