Hi..

I was away for 3 days last week and had a babysitter for my cat. Dmitri is almost 4 years old and a stunning black tabby.

When I came back, my little guy has an odd white spot on one of his ears. It's on the outside, about the size of a pencil eraser. It's missing fur.

I checked for mites, but there are no symptoms. He's also not scratching it.. I don't think he knows it's there.

Any ideas? Maybe it was an accident he had? He's pretty aglie, but have missed the cat condo once or twice lately

Here's a pic, it's a bit blurry - he wouldn't stay still.

thanks for your help and Happy New Year!

Craig and Dmitri

Since it isn't raw, "just" fur missing, keep an eye on it. He probably scraped it on something, somehow, and it should grow back in just fine. Our little white girl had very bad sunburn when we first rescued her - there was very little hair left on the edges of her ears.
Most of it grew back, though where she was burnt the worst it will never grow back. We have to watch her for skin cancer, actually. I'd just keep an eye on it - if you can't see the hair growing back in a week / week-and-a-half (or if the spot starts getting larger), I'd give the vet a ring. (Oh - these are "vibes" for your kitty, not little things throwing up, like I first thought when I saw them.
).

The cat sitter didn't say anything? Kinda odd... from the pic it looks like it'd be pretty noticeable - even to someone not really familiar with your cat!

Hope you have a Happy New Year too!

Some cats obsessively overgroom when stressed, and Tigger had some spots like that on her ears (as well as completely naked back legs) when we got her. Like Laurie said, watch that it doesn't get worse or bigger!

Really good point - he might have been overgrooming while you were gone, but is OK now that you're back.
