Scotish Fold Lovers

Hello all and happy new year.

We are Constantine and Jennifer a new couple with one mix cat (His name as u can imagine is Skipper) and two show-work dogs. We fell inlove with the breed
(we also need to find more information from actual people and not everything from the web - about the breed), so we are currently looking for a Scotish fold kitten. We need advise on how to contact breeders depending on what we like. We have read the standar but we have not master it yet!!!

We are not in a hurry and we will wait to get the kind of cat we want. We were thinking of a "second" choise kitty that will have nothing to be jealous of - conformation wise- from parents and show siblings. We would like to know though what a show cat would get us into, although we need to be honest and say that this is not a something that we have decided yet.

In the dog world a "pet" could be a non good speciment from a good litter even if a brother or sister is a star in the show arenas. Is it the same with the cats? we, for sure, not looking for something like this. We need an other members in our family that we are going to love staring at. Also we are after a good temperament- a one we can hold because our Skipp is an high pray drive cat and we dont get any affection. But we love him as he is.

As i told you time is not important also to be "cheap" is not important. Quality and temperament and health is important

I think i saw someone talking about a Lynx!!! Are you allowed to breed a cat likes this? Or where you reffering to something else?

I show sphynx but I do see folds at the shows.
You do have the right idea about temperament and quality and health.
You have the right idea about waiting and finding a good breeder.
It is the same with cats also.
They can be brother and sister and one might be for show and the other not.

Thank you. I like the approach too. I think cat people are better mannered than dog people. Unlike the animals!!!

People at cat shows can be real catty just like at dog shows.
I know people that show both cats and dogs.
There are nice people also.

Perhaps they were referring to Lynx point (tabby points) a pattern found in different breeds.

Unlike dog shows, cats can be shown altered. Most breeders start out showing alters then move onto breeding.

You can find breeders on the links Jacky provided and also this site http://www.breedlist.com/

Scottish Folds and Shorthairs are cute cats, bit slow for my liking though

You will probably find in the US that most pet Scottish Folds have straight ears and cannot be shown. Over here we call them Scottish Shorthairs and they are shown right along side the folded ones.

My cats don't go beyond the backyard, they only go out on harness and when we move they will have an enclosure to play in. And we don't have a dog

We do not have a dog either and my sphynx are not allowed outside but I do take them to the pet store.

Well, there's always the 'loophole' in TICA, you can show Scottish Straights in HHP class.

When looking for a foldie, make sure you pick a breeder who has all the health tests checked. I don't think they do x-rays to folds in US (?) but that's what I asked for when I got mine. Never EVER get a 'Scottish Fold' without registration papers! When choosing a show kitten, the tighter the ears are folded the better. Check the tail, if you notice any abnormalities don't get that kitten or any other cat from that cattery.

And a bit OT, I spent my new year's eve with my foldie's straight eared brother, he's such a sweet boy!
Here is a picture of the straight ear boy and another one of my fold.

This was my Scottish fold Shatazar at a CFA "foot of the Rockies" show in Colorado. I had to take a picture of the original picture because I don't have a scanner(sorry for the quality). This is me when I was still in my 20's!!! In the late 80's!!! Shatazar had nice tight ears but she really hated the shows. I lost her to cancer when she was 6

I have seen only a few folds at the cat shows I go to, but they sure are cute. One thing you should think of however, not many responsible cat breeders will sell a kitten if you plan to let it outside. Every breeder I have talked to has a contract stating that their cats are to be indoor cats only.

I think u missunderstand me. We dont keep the cat outside. We trained him to play outside for like 1-2 hours in the back yard and then he comes back in. It is amazing what u can do with a bell or clicker and some treats. Our cat and dogs live in the house.

I didn't misunderstand, I don't think. Most breeders won't allow their cats to live with someone who has the intention of allowing them outside, off-leash. At all, even if trained to come to a clicker. This wasn't meant to be an insult to your animal keeping abilities, it's just a requirement of most breeders.

Sohni is right.
It is in so many of the breeders contracts.

Never had a breeder of any of my purebred cats allow you to let them outside - its in the contract. If they find out you've let the cat outside and something happens to it - then, believe me, word gets around to other breeders! And not in a good way.
