I think Archie is jealous....

He is a dominant cat.. I call him Alpha-lite. He likes to play rough. Lately it seems worse... Prowler let out a couple of screams the other night... Jake has hissed at him as if to say BACK OFF, JERK!

They can pretty much handle him. I am worried about the situation with Casper, who has a room to himself and is very timid.

Archie has been very, very persistent about getting into Cas' room. He knows I don't like it ....

He will scoot under the desk.... and if he behaves I let him stay and explore. But many times he looks for an opportunity to charge Casper! And of course, Cas flops into defense mode, hissing and growling. I reprimand Arch and put him out of the room and he goes and sulks.

Something happened today that tells me for a certainty that Arch is jealous of Cas. Cas will give me his belly.... so I was petting and rubbing Cas... Well, Archie decided HE wanted attention and began flopping and rolling. I was taking turns and Arch must have gotten impatient and he charged over to Cas while Cas was on his side, jumped on him and pinned him by the neck with his teeth and wouldn't let him up!!

I had to intervene.

Any advice?

I know... keep Arch out of there... but it is not always possible. Archie knows I don't like this behavior but he cannot help himself. I have tried calming sprays and that isn't helping either.

He doesn't like Cas and when Cas runs, well the game is ON!!

He also wants Cas's room back..... CAn't do anything about that either until I can rehome one of them.

My kitty, Merlin, is also an alpha cat and tends to exhibit the same behavior as your boy. I give him plenty of attention, but he knows that Whimsey has my heart so he bullies Whimsey. This is what I've done which has improved the situation, but not totally eliminated it:

1. Provide LOTS of vertical space in the form of cat trees.
2. Use Fliway diffusers.
3. Use two Spirit Essences homeopathic remedies on Merlin: Bully Remedy and Peacemaker. I use the Self-esteem Remedy on Whimsey.
4. Give Merlin lots of attention. I believe that a lot of his behavior is because he is insecure (like most bullies).
5. Mom's radar is always attuned so that she knows where Whimsey and Merlin are 99.9% of the time.

I know how challenging and difficult it is to keep an alpha cat from expressing his dominance on his feline companions.
