Andrew Tobias is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting and best-informed writers on finance and insurance in the U.S. He has a long list of great books, but my favorite is "The Invisible Bankers." It's everything the insurance companies do NOT want you to know about insurance.
I believe he has served as an advisor the Obama campaign. However, I haven't heard him interviewed anywhere, and I think everyone is overlooking a great resource.
