I've never really gotten into it....had never seen many of the episodes, and it's a show that's been around forever. But BBC America is having a Dr. Who marathon and yesterday I must have watched 10 hours of it. I have a cold, so I stayed inside all day.

It's continuing today, leading up to a new episode. I've really gotten into it. David Tennant is wonderful!

Anyone else watching/seen it?

Any Dr. Who fan will tell you, Tom Baker is da doc.
I like Tennant, he is good, and cute, but old timers like me, it's got to be Baker.
Let the debate begin!

So, speaking of such BBC sci-fi shows, anyone a fan of Red Dwarf?

My favourite Doctor was Jon Pertwee, the third Doctor. Also really liked William Hartnel. Could take or leave Baker and Davisson, hated Sylvester McCoy and could tolerate Patrick Troughton in small doses. I really liked David Tennant, he brought back some of the whimsy that Pertwee introduced into the character and there was an intensity to both versions as well. I heard rumours of the Master resurfacing for the final episode with Tennant....is he played by John Simm or someone else? Simm was great but didnt have Roger Delgado's menacing demeanor down pat.

I really like Dr Who, I started watching when Christopher Eccleston was the Dr and have seen all of David Tennants run. I have part one of the his last two episodes saved on my DVR, will start it tonight when part two is recording. I'll sure miss him!
John Simm is back as the master (according to previews), can't wait to see him back, he's fantastic!

I just checked the schedule on Space Channel, and yes, John Simm is back. Like I said, he was good as The Master.

I noticed I missed Colin Baker in my initial post about the early series...guess that means he had no impact on me at all, completely forgetable

MonaxLisa - if you like John Simm, watch for re-runs of Life on Mars, the BBC one, not the 'improved' NBC version with Michael Imperioli. And following Life on Mars is Ashes to Ashes.

I first saw John Simm in Life on Mars on BBCA (I don't think they're showing reruns any more) which I thought was a great show. I liked Ashes to Ashes quite a bit too (I've got a weakness for Philip Glenister too
).

Oh my, I have that same weakness. He isn't a pretty boy by any means like William Roache or Linus Roache but there is something very appealing about him, good acting aside.

My Dad was addicted to "Dr. Who" (Tom Baker), "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman", and "Soap" back in the mid to late '70's. I occasionally watched a few different shows with him, but I never really found them that interesting.....He, of course, thought they were quite hysterical.

I have never really gotten into it myself but my sn loves it, he has loads of dvd's (he is only 4). David Tennant left last night and there is a new Dr now, they change like the wind. My son also likes The Sarah Jane adventures which is a spin off from Dr Who, I think she used to be his sidekick a while back, this is a childrens programme. x

Sarah Jane was assistant to the third Doctor, Joh Pertwee, and that certainly wouldn't have ranked a children's show as the tension between the two could be felt through the tv, almost soap viewing then. I dunno about Sarah Jane Adventures being exactly children's programming on this side of the pond, but in Great Britain, Doctor Who has been a fixture since 1963, both new episodes and re-runs, so the difference is, those kids are used to that level of maturity in a show.

Dr. Who.

I got into it in high school when PBS would run the old version of the show. I started watching with Peter Davison so I've always had a soft spot for him. I also like John Pertwee, and Sylvester McCoy though the show was going to hell in a handbasket by then.

I like the new series very much. Both Eccleston and Tennant have done a fine job of bringing life back into it. I do think it peaked around season 3 in terms of writing and such with Tennant. He's smart to be moving on.

Hope the new writers and Matt Smith can reinvent it yet again!

It's amazing how long this show has held on. So many doctors. I know of Jon Pertwee, because I really like his son, Sean, as an actor.

David Tennant said he became an actor because at the age of 3 or 4 he was hooked on Dr. Who, with Tom Baker, and wanted to be in the television with all of them and then had always wanted to play the Doctor! He got his dream part!
