Who is happy with Obama?

Thread Starter
Just wanted to throw that out because a LOT of people I know that thought he was going to "change the world" are now sorry he voted for him. So, are you happy or not.
I am - would vote for him all over again, and will do so proudly for re-elections. This country was in a VERY bad situation when he took over, things take time to happen. IMO you can't expect to fix all that mess in one term, let alone in one year! I knew people who were expecting miracles were going to be disappointed - there are no miracles.
Obama IMO is putting the country back in the right direction and making it earn the respect back of the World, as it deserves. I am proud to have him as a President - I just need a better sticker

I am, I would also vote for him again. I did not expect him to change the world in a year, actually I didn't expect him to change the world at all. I expected him to makes changes in this country. I was fully aware that his presidency was going to be an uphill battle and I think that given what he was left with, he's doing a fine job

I'm not unhappy with him, but I'd still vote for Nader again. I like Ralph just because he is the epitome of stubborn.
I'd vote for him again...some thing he does I'm not happy with (like Afghanistan) but given the choices of candidates running in 2008 he would still be by far the one I most agree with so yes I would definitely vote for him again. And he has done far more things that I'm very happy with, things I thought might possibly just be campaign promises but he kept his word ...
I am still not happy with him, but I wasn't really from the start, he was just the lesser of two evils in my mind.

I don't ever expect any president to change the country in a year, but I didn't expect him to send more troops overseas... Shows how gullible I am.
I am.

Change on the scale he is trying to achieve is always controversial. There will always be those who scream that they know better. I just hope the obstacles to meaningful change those people are creating don't end up derailing what he is trying accomplish.
I would vote for him again, despite having a few disappointments (for exmple, trying too hard for bi-partisanship when the opposition is clearly not interested). The main reason I voted for him was because I believed he had the ability to begin to repair the rift that the previous administration had caused between us and the rest of the world, and I'm cautiously optimistic that he is accomplishing that. As for changing this country? Too many powerful forces working to keep the status quo - it's not going to happen in a year.
Absolutely I am happy with him. Everywhere you look in our country we have huge problems (education, foreign policy, healthcare, economy) and expecting one single person, even a President to change them within a year is unrealistic. And of course all the Republicans are doing is blocking without offering anything constructive. I was happy to vote FOR Obama but I also voted AGAINST the team that the Republicans put forth. Things may not be rosy now, but I shudder to think where our country would be if the McCain/Palin ticket had won. It would have been Big Business as usual, we would have continued sliding into an even bigger mess, and the wingnuts would have continued on with the delusion that they constitute a majority.

I'd vote for him again in a heartbeat and I'm casting my vote everywhere possible on the state level to make sure that Republicans stay OUT of office.

While discussing the health reform act (we are both for health reform but think Congress is, well, they just are) my father challanged me to name one thing I liked that President Obama has done.

Restored the Endanged Species Act
Ended stem cell funding ban
Omnibus Public Land Act
Tax credit for college education
Laid groundwork to close Gitmo
White House Council on Women and Girls
Reversed abstinence policy in funding for family planning and AIDS prevention paving the way for information on condom use and other information
Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
Edward M Kennedy Service America Act
Allow states to establish medical marijuana laws
Expanded FMLA provisions for military caregiver leave
Credit card reform (even though it had a measure that allows gun on national park land attached to it)
White House garden (Maybe that is Mrs. Obama but I do think Americans need to change the way they eat, if possible)

As for Afghanistan, while not thrilled about it, he did say while campaigning that he would focus attention there. So I voted for him knowing that. I was glad to see he did not just order troops there but took time to have the military present scenerios and logistics and debate before doing so. It might not work but at least take the time and effort to do due diligence before commitment.

There are things I am not thrilled about this administration. And that is how it should be. That would happen no matter who was in office. This is a large country and many different views, we are not as individuals going to get everything we want. For everything I like there is someone who has a different opinion. The above list will have critics and that is fine. Anyone who thought he could "change the world" needs to be more of a realist when it comes to American politics.

He has been something of a disappointment to me, and although I didn't vote for him (or McCain, for that matter), I think he squandered some very good opportunities to enact the change he seemed to espouse.

His ideology is not what I would believe in, and like every President I know of (and I used to teach History!), he is sowing the seeds of problems to come later.

In addition, those who attack the previous President and consider the previous 8 years to be all bad should keep in mind that Obama's approval ratings have fallen farther faster than any President in history, and those who thought the "Smirking Chimp" websites were funny (or justified) should brace themselves for the same sort of treatment of Obama. The fact that the Obama administration has continued many of the policies of the previous administration (such as renewing the Patriot Act) should understand that those policies were, in fact, necessary by the analysis of those who knew all the facts and when the Obama administration saw the same data, they decided to continue them. Most people have gotten very tired of the habit of this administration of blaming the previous administration for everything that goes wrong. Clinton had the same nasty habit, but Bush rarely criticized his predecessors, and certainly never outside the U.S. He at least understood that much about Presidential tradition.

I would not be surprised if you saw, on Christmas Day, the last nail being driven into the plans to close Guantanamo Bay or, perhaps, the start of the movement to establish a similar, permanent prison for such prisoners somewhere in the U.S. I've already heard a White House spokesperson slapped down for saying, "The term 'enemy combatant' no longer exists in the U.S.'" She was pointedly reminded by the interviewer that the term is set and defined by the U.N., whereupon she admitted that the White House just didn't want to use it.

Like it or not, Obama has set in motion policies that could make him an extremely popular President, or one of the most disliked in history, depending on how just a few events might fall.

And to put both Bush and Obama in a historical context, keep in mind that Truman had been viewed as too stupid to be President, spoke with an annoying southern accent, and left office seriously unpopular due to an Asian war he couldn't seem to extract the U.S. from.

Interesting question...
I would definitely vote for him again. Especially if the other choice was McCain or Palin.
I didn't vote for him and would never vote for him.

He has got to be the biggest liar I have ever seen in my life. His idea of "hope and change" is to bring his corrupt, Chicago style politics to Washington and make it even more corrupt than it was.

Just one of many examples, "no lobbyists" for Barack. Yeah right, in a pig's eye.
I voted for him and I would NOT vote for him again, nor would I vote for Mccain. I want them all out of office. I'm burned out on corruption
post #16 of 119
I did not vote for anyone as no mere man will actually change things in this world for the better at this point....

I'm with you. I can't think of one positive thing the man has done. His cabinet is full of incompetents, liars, and tax cheats. He has done more to polarize this country than any man in history. I want him gone, and 2012 isn't soon enough.

Let's just put it this way. Today I bought a bumper sticker that says SOrry Yet? If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention. I went looking for a NOt My Fault sticker, but they didn't have any.

Thank you (even though I didn't vote for him).

Congress is a good place to start cleaning house come November 2010. I'm going to start by helping to vote out Steve Driehaus. He may be a fellow alumnus of the same high school I went to but any person who goose steps with Nancy Pelosi deserves to be thrown out on their butt.

My sentiments exactly.

Oh yeah, Barack quadrupling the deficit that he was handed is a fine job. Can't ask for better than that.

Oh yeah, I don't see how ANYONE in their right mind would vote for a man who has served his country with integrity and distinction his entire life. What could possibly be worse than that?

Good GRIEF!

All the cabinets have been full of incompetents, liars and tax cheats. But being Dems, they are going to expose theirs....unlike the Republican party who close ranks so well.

My biggest disappointment is in the President trying to hard to maintain the bipartisanship game plan. The Republicans are simply refusing to play - they are like a husband who refuses to act married and refuses to try counseling. I was appalled at some of them ignoring the State of the Union speech, deliberately playing on their cell phones, chit-chatting - I suppose they pick their noses during church, too

Other than that, I think President Obama is moving us in the right direction, while trying not alienate the Right, who feel so Wronged; sometimes victims just like that role - why can't the Dems realize that I think maybe it's time for the Libertarians to have a go at things, I'm sure they've got a plan for the Republican whiners

If Sarah Palin is on the ticket next time, she has my vote. She's a real person

I didn't vote for him, I am not happy with him and would not vote for him.

The extraordinary amount of smilies has totally changed my mind about Barack. He's the best.

If you want to be critical of anyone in the SOTU, be critical of Barack for obtaining the award for "least presidential president in U.S. history" for his humiliating treatment of the SCOTUS.

In addition, be critical of the Barack's own girl, the head of Homeland Secuirty, Ms Janet (right wingers are potential terrorists) Napolitano for blatantly falling asleep during the SOTU. Good Grief, she was probably snoring.

Oh and one more thing, contrary to your belief, historically, it is the Democrats who are the perpetual "victims".

Hey, can you post me a list of names in Bush's cabinet, since they are all so, "full of incompetents, liars and tax cheats." I want to know who those people in Bush's cabinet were.
Do you have a link or anything?

I would really like to hear from those that are happy with him, what has he DONE to earn your confidence. I don't want to hear about what he is going to do or what he wants to do, but what EXACTLY HAS HE DONE in the year he has been in office to deserve your continued endorsement?

Here's my partial list of his "accomplishments:"

No state dinner or even high tea at the White House for visiting PM Gordon Brown. His gifts to Brown was a pen and 25 American (format) DVDs, incompatible with British electronics.

He gave Queen Elizabeth an Ipod loaded with Obama speeches. How riveting, lol!

He bows to the King of Saudi Arabia and the Emperor of Japan. Where are his protocol people?

He makes an unnecessary, unrewarding, hugely expensive trip to Denmark to stump for Chicago for the Olympics, with Michelle traveling in a separate plane.

He calls the actions of a Cambridge police officer "acting stupidly" while acknowledging he didn't know the entire story.

He appoints tax cheats to his cabinet. (Geithner & Sebelius, maybe others)

He is obsessed with passing a health care bill that no one wants (except Congressional Democrats pandering to him).

He has alienated every conservative, nearly every Republican, and half the nation's Democrats - all while claiming to want a bi-partisan agenda.

There are many more, too numerous to mention.

I absolutely am happy with him and would vote for him again. 100% satisfied. The problems this country has are not going to be changed overnight. The man has been in office a little over a year.
It's so nice to hear that not many people have changed their views since the last election!!
OMG, I can't stand him. The only hope and change there will be is you will hope there is change in your pocket at the end of his term.

I firmly believe that he does not care if he is a two term president. He only is concerned with "righting" all the perceived wrongs as fast as he can. He did not grow up in Alabama or Georgia. He is not in touch with the black community in this country. He is an elitest. He associated himself with radicals.

I did not vote for him, would never vote for him. His appointments are disasters. He just attacked the Supreme Court while they were seated at his feet. That is never done. Thank God Scott Brown was elected. I think Obama was and still is stunned by that. And then his hysterical statement as to why Brown won. If he truly believes that, he is delusional too.

Lets hope and pray there will be a wind of change sweeping through this country when the elections come up. Thank goodness Americans are starting to wake up and see just what they sent to Washington.
