The House Smells Like a SEWER!!!

Ugggghhhh. The entire house smells like a sewer. It is 30 degrees out and all the windows are open trying to air out the house.

Evidently a neighbor had issues with the sewer backing up and called the city who sent a pump truck out to vacuum out the main sewer line. Well, it pulled all the water out of our household sewer lines and let the sewer gasses in.

Hubby and I went out to talk to the city guys to find out the problem and since I know one of the guys, I couldn't get too mad, but am now left with a stinky house.

I had a skunk spray under my house one time but fortunately had 3 air purifiers at the time. Turn on all of your bathroom/kitchen exhaust fans (if you have them and they actually push air outside your home), and if you have a fan, put it in an open window blowing outward.

Well, I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but hopefully the whole neighborhood uses a lot of water quick!

How terrible for you. I am super sensitive to smells myself, I would find that unbearable.

Two sticks of incense and all the fans on with the windows open has gotten rid of the smell, but I now have one heck of a headache.

When we first noticed the smell, hubby flushed the toilet and ran the sinks to try to plug the drains with water, but the basement drain was also open and he had to run several buckets of water down there also.

He called his parents (the neighbors) who said that they hadn't noticed the smell yet.

At least it wasn't actual sewage backed up into your house. Believe me, that is not fun!

That is what one of the sewer guys said.

Oh my god... Its one of the worst smells in the world though!

I would have to leave and come back later! Sorry kitties!

Been there, done that, hope it never happens again.

Thankfully it was just the smell, and not the cause of the smell.
