Advice needed!

I am moving sometime in the next week. Perhaps as early as this Sunday. I want to get a blood panel done on ReeRee. They can fit me in Monday.

He has been drinking more lately and although he is a very vocal cat I have noticed he is even more so. I just want to make sure nothing is going on. So, I want to get a blood panel done on him. Should I wait till after I move or go Monday?

My gut is telling me to move next week and go either late in the week after he is settled in the new place or as late as early the following week. Does anyone think a week is going to make any difference at this point? I am just concerned about adding on too many stressors at one time. I think seeing all the moving boxes is going to be enough for him to freak out over (speaking by experiance) so if I wait till I am moved (and I always get things settled in a new place same day as I move) he can at least come home from his vet visit where he is poked with a needle to some normalcy and routine.

Am I over thinking this whole thing??

Since you're seeing a change in behavior, I would say get him to the vet as soon as possible. Can you move the same day? Take him to the vet, move your stuff, then pick him up from the vet and take him to the new home with everything already in place?

yes, perhaps even the vet can keep him there some day?? some vets do.

Otherways, if you can get your hands on Feliway, try with it. It will calm him somewhat, during the moving procedure.

Good luck!

If I can move on Sunday I will be all settled by his Monday appointment. I was just wondering if one day moving and the next day vet visit would be too much? If I moved on Sunday and took him Thurs/Friday it doesn't seem like it would be that big of a difference stress wise so perhaps it is better to get it done sooner than later regardless of when I move. I'll just give him extra TLC to hopefully soften the changes.

Just thought of this: because if something is wrong the stress of the move could make it progress worse (we all know how quickly cats can spiral down when sick) and if it is known what is going on I can get him needed medication or anything else he may need sooner. Rather than having to take him to the emergency care center while waiting for his appointment at the end of the week.

Okay, I will keep his appointment for Monday no matter what.

for the move - and for ReeRee.

When you move, to help reduce the stress, move all the bedroom stuff in first, and then release the cats into the bedroom and close the door. Have litter boxes, food and water, cat beds & stuff they're familiar with all out. Take the sheets and blankets off your current bed, and pile them up somewhere near wherever you think they'll hide. All the familiar smells will help a LOT. ...and with the bedroom moving done and the cats shut in there, you don't have to worry about them darting out during the move.

Also - if you have or can grab some feliway before the move, spray a lot of it in the room and all around the new place (just avoid wherever you're going to put the litter boxes).

all goes smoothly!

...hopefully he's just sensing from you that the move is coming, and he's talking for reassurance.

Thanks Laurie! I have moved successfully before with my kits but was really concerned about overdoing the stress by combining with a vet visit so soon. I decided to move next weekend, the 9th, so I can take him monday and deal with that first. I have the luxury of not needing to move on the first of the month. Although I will start packing, but they think thats kinda fun with all those boxes around to jump in.
