I need to write this before my little, teeny brain forgets.
I currently have 2 cats and 5 dogs. I am guessing many of you read my post about Boomer last night, but I also have Chloe. Chloe is a 6 year old DLH tortie. She was such a bold little kitten. I have no idea where she came from, but she followed me home as my dad and I were walking one of the Dobermans. She went right up to him and was rubbing against his legs and mewing. We kept walking but she was so determined. She knew she had found a sap that couldn't turn her away. At that time I was still in college and living at home. We had a total of 3 dogs and 3 cats with Chloe.
I have always owned multiple animals. I had primarily cats as a child, but when I was 20 got my first Doberman. I titled him in agility and obedience, and got a second Dobe. She was shown in conformation and AKC pointed but never finished so I went on to put agility titles on her as well.
Fast forward to now. I have 3 Dobermans and 2 Pharaoh Hounds as well as the cats. My 3 year old male is an AKC Ch. I also have a my 10 year old female, and then I have a daughter of my Ch. Reggie. The Pharaohs were my husband's breed of choice but I love them equally. I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old female, both spayed pets. I have tried my hand at lure coursing with them but so far they are not crazy about it. My Doberman puppy will be shown in conformation, and I am also taking private lessons with my boy to get some obedience titles.
I have been active in Dobe rescue for about 2 years now. In that time I have placed 5 fosters into forever homes. I also am a regular volunteer at our local shelter. I started volunteering about a year ago when one of the stray, neighborhood cats I had been feeding showed up with a HUGE abscess that was eating half of his face. That poor guy. It was this necrotic, gaping hole that leaked green pus. I got a humane trap from the shelter and brought him in. I spoke with one of the managers about him for quite a long while about whether or not to try to treat him or put him down. After a time it was decided that the extent of the damage could not be determined and there were SO MANY adoptable cats already it would not be a wise use of resources. The manager was kind enough to allow me to be present when I asked to be there when he was PTS. I really felt responsible for him even though he wasn't mine and wanted him to know he was loved in the end.
After that I just kept coming back to socialize and play with the cats and dogs. It is very rewarding to be able to see them happy and well cared for.
I am not currently employed, but have a Bachelor's degree in fine art and design. (that and 25 cents won't get you a cup of coffee) The 4 legged family keeps me quite busy. There's a LOT of cleaning and exercising to be done with so many critters. I love all of them, and wouldn't have it any other way.
