Sorry if this is a bit of a rant...but I am really upset at the video games I've tried lately!!!
I like to play video games, especially shooter games ..there is just something about shooter games that makes them really fun, how some of the bring you back to an actual war or a revolution that happened in history- for example call of duty, or something like zombies chasing you like Resident Evil..
But all of the games I've tried...well they just make me mad because they require so much time and even require for me build up some kind of skill which is ridiculous, who would actually spend time to become good at a game, which will serve no purpose in real life and only function as a waste of time because it really isnt' a "skill" anymore once you turn off the game . I used to play this game "return to castle wolftenstein" when I was in middle school, and that game was much easier to play, and I also played a game called "no one lives forever" which was AWESOME- the main character was a female spy
I loved those games and they were so much more relaxed, but the games I try now these days are so complicated that since I only get about two hours a week to play, I can't even get into the game...When I first played call of duty, I had to spend time just to learn to walk and shoot at the same time
I guess in an attempt to make the controls so realistic, they have actually made it a little too complicated for someone as uninvolved as me can play..of course I have friends who play 8 hours a day, for them it isn't hard
But I could never do that, because I don't want to waste my time perfecting a skill that doesn't serve me any purpose... And today I decided to play final fantasy 12 and it made me soo frustrated because I died after three hours of playing and it made me go back to the beginning because apparently there aren't many save points...It is just crazy, I am never going to play that game again..why oh WHY do people like these frustrating games
I don't get it at all!! You are probably thinking "well if you don't like games so much just don't play them" but that's not it, I love the games themselves, I watch my friends play and I enjoy even just watching I only wish I could play well enough so that I can actually enjoy the game
Anyways, does anyone know a less complicated shooter game they can suggest ?? I know most of you may not play any games but I thought it may be worth a try to ask....

Doom!! Okay so it's super old, but it was fun and uncomplicated.

I'm an RPGer though, not a first person shooter kinda girl. I totally understand what you are saying by games becoming too complicated. Final Fantasies are my fave. I played them all, gb, Nes, Snes, and I tried the FF7 on PS, but... Like you say... It's like a bunch of cds long. I got through maybe a quarter of cd1 and ... well, never finished the game.

Maybe the only way to play a nice uncomplicated game is to go back... hit some old school games. I don't know what kind of system you have (game platform), or if you only use your computer. There are some nice games online that one can play. There are also Emulators that will allow you to play the old atari, nes, snes, N64, and sega, all the old platform games. It is ILLEGAL to download the games ... it's a strange situation. From my understanding, you can legally own copies(That work in emulators) of the games that you physically own. I have my snes, and my n64 in my living room, and all my games. I also have my sega/sega cd, and saturn in my storage unit with lots of games. Oh, and my atari 2600 is in my living room, with lots of games. So... I have the games on my laptop and desktop computer as well.

If you are interested in emulators, look them up, read all the rules, and enjoy.
I'm playing Mario Kart Double Dash on the game cube right now. My hubby got it for me for my bday!
I also play WoW, The sims 2, the sims 3, Pharoah/Cleopatra, Dungeon Keeper 2.

But... WoW has a lot of skills and takes a lot of time to really play the game. I've had the same toon for 4 years now, and she isn't as geared up as most toons her age. She hit 70 just after WOTLK came out, and she hit 80 a little while after. I took my time.

I'm sorry I wasn't much help. But I completely understand where you are coming from, being a gamer girl. I had a hard time adjusting from Snes to N64. I did eventually get the hang of the whole 3d aspect of it.

Well... good luck, I will ask around my gaming friends and see if they know anything.

Be safe

I don't really play video games that much, but I know exactly what you mean about simplicity- i like very very simple games, the ones you just jump on and play- like Pac-man and Donkey Kong
I used to love Mario Kart and the Super Mario Bros games. I play a couple Facebook apps, and they are the simple ones
I used to watch my BFs of the past play their games like Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat (my very very favorite
) but I would never play them, my approach was to try and hit as many buttons at once as possible if I did

The video games they make today are way to complicated

He hated me. I always played Mileena. Her teleport kick ruled!! I just hit random buttons, and didn't do too bad, especially once I learned the teleport kick...
wow...

I have a playstation 2 that was inherited when my boyfriend got a playstation three probably 2-3 years ago
For new games I get the pc version...
I am going to hit game stop today and look for older games..I am thinking of getting maybe one of the very early versions of call of duty, resident evil or red faction..I really think I may like those because I liked earlier games, from 2002-2004 ..It is just sad that there aren't any new games with better graphics that have simpler story lines

Is there a lot more fire-and-movement with the CoD: Modern Warfare games than with the WWII versions of the series? I can't play Modern Warfare because my computer isn't fast enough. CoD 2 was pretty sweet.

I play most strategy type games like games in the Total War series and Civilization.

I played the first couple of Halos quite a bit - but they sped up 3 and I can't track that in a FPS.
If you're reaction time is not as fast as other peoples the way to take people (online play)out on that is snipering.
I was also very good at getting grenades to go very long distances and stickying people.

Purely FPS are faster paced. Older lines of those that tend to always be favorites are Unreal Tournament and Quake.

There are other mission based type games you might like. If you have an Xbox, there's the first Mercenaries game. If you have access to a 360 or PS3 you could try the second one. Both games can be bought used cheaply.

I'm not sure if you've played it, but there's Dead Rising (and the second one) - don't bother with the cripped wii version. Another zombie game for 360 is Left 4 Dead - I don't think you have to build up skills for that. It's more of a game for online/multiplayer play due to how it's set up.

If you want more suggestions I can ask DH in an hour as he prefers those games.

ETA: Duh, I completely forgot the Medal of Honor games and Battlefront Bad Company. There's also Farcry (and FC2) and Crysis (but you need a good gaming pc for this).

I used to play the delta force games, Land Warrior & Black Hawk down. I was on a team(squad) for several years. They are still around playing another game. Those were fond memories!!

Oh wow thanks those are a lot of suggestions, lots of games I can try!
I went to game stop earlier and I almost bought another tomb raider game and another resident evil game (both older versions) but they didn't have them
but I bought a really old version of the red faction games and i tried it, seems simple enough for me to play for now...
The biggest issue I have with most games is the controls, I run into walls and get stuck in corners sometimes if only for a little bit it can get me killed really quickly

I can get access to either xbox or ps3 ( my bf's) so either is good I prefer to get games of my own but I can get some through gamefly.. I actually haven't heard of any of the games you mentioned so it will be interesting to check them out.

I think it is, I haven't played CoD 2 but I played 3 and that one had to do with WWII - I thought it was still pretty fast but the modern warfare one is really crazy, there are about 10-15 enemies for each person and it is just inevitable for dying many times and starting over to.That is one aspect I don't like, I prefer for games to make it easier to not die as often

I don't know why but I prefer the storyline of red faction, I think it has to do with how in CoD you're just a simple soldier while in red faction they give you a more special detrimental role in the whole war/revolution.

If you have access to an Xbox 360 and like the Tomb Raider games, you should give the Assassin's Creed series a try. No shooting, but lots of swordplay, and the gameplay isn't overly complicated or difficult.

FSPs I can handle, no matter how chaotic they seem to be. My nemesis- Sim City 4. For the first time ever I finally have a very small town being built that isn't in the red- it's actually in the black finanically and growing ever so slowly

My brother was always a big fan of Wolfenstein and Doom.

I would try the Assassin's Creed series - the story is pretty interesting, and it doesn't seem that you can get killed all that easily. (Also don't forget to look up the cheat threads in the Internet...always helpful!)

Maybe you could try out some of the online PC shooter games? Like Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2.
Oh, but if you have a PS2, you could try Shadow of The Colossus! It's not a shooter game, but it's pretty awesome!
Plus there are a lot of Metroid Prime games which are fun... but maybe they might be considered rather hard.

Srry I couldn't suggest more. I don't know a lot of shooter games. I'm more into DS games, 'cos I can just whip out my DS whenever I get bored and play no matter where I am! The drawback is that there aren't many shooter games I know of on it.

My favorite game of all time is by far Diablo 2. It's not a shooter and you have to level up and stuff like that, but for some reason I just love it. You might want to take a look at it if you have never played it. Another good one is Killing Floor. Kill zombies, get money, buy weapons, rinse and repeat. Or there's always Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. Then there's F.E.A.R., S.T.A.L.K.E.R., the Thief series, Silent Hill series (scariest games I've ever played), System Shock series (second scariest games), Unreal Tournament series, good old fashioned Quake series, Duke Nukem series, Doom series, Dead Space, Bioshock, Fallout 3, the Halo series. I could go on but that should keep you busy for a while.

On computer games? If so, what games and what's in your computer? (And no, I don't care about PC brand or year - that won't tell me what's in it) If there is anything causing dropped frames it could cause issues like that. Anything from memory issues on the graphics card to heat problems could cause problems during games. Cat fur is a fan killer and causes heat issues.
If it's all games, adjust your controls and sensitivity. You don't have to use default. Take Halo games for example, I have to use the complete opposite of most of the default settings.

DOOM is an AWESOME GAME!!
Even though it scares the crap out of me...

I really like older games compared to newer ones just for the fact that newer games are so much more complicated.

I am a HUGE fan of the Silent Hill series though, although I havent had a chance to play the latest one yet, I can attest that every game before that has an amazing storyline and I enjoy finding subtle ways that each of them connect to each other.

I know it's kind of lame, but have you tried Tomb Raider?

Also, do you use a controller for PC games or do you just use keyboard/mouse? If you don't, I think you should invest in a PC gaming controller as it will make gaming much much easier.

I absolutely hate games that I have to play online, and even worse when I have to pay for them. I am more of a survival horror fan and Cabella's hunting games.

Oh, and Mario always rocks...

It's not a shooter, per se, but if you're into medieval fantasy games at all, you could do worse than "Drakengard". It's an RPG that has you engaging different combat scenarios both on the ground (with swords and such) and in the air (while riding a dragon!). It's very cool, and you can find it on the cheap, I think I picked mine up for $10 at a Rite-Aid checkout counter. Its complex and detailed enough for a real "gamer", and yet simple enough for someone that just wants to sit down for an hour and play out a single scenario, or ride your dragon for a bit and scorch the earth below.

Wow I never thought I'd get soo many suggestions! Thanks everyone

strange_wings i think you're right about the controls sensitivity I should really play around with that.
I am not really into RPGs because there isn't enough for me to do and too much time spent explaining the story...I like simplicity lol just give me a gun and I'm good...For me just the surroundings can make a good story, I really don't need cut scenes and a lot of text to read...
I will definitely try doom since so many people love it, I like scary
And I also love resident evil games..
