Tomorrow's my 27th birthday (oy vey, am I really that old
?!) and I found out that one of my b-day gifts is going to be a beardie and complete set-up. And, I am so excited
!

I've never been a reptile person. But, since I started working in a pet store this summer, I've quickly grown to like, no, love
, them. I had never held a snake and was afraid to, but now am a big fan of ball pythons (I'm not so into the corn, milk, or king snakes...yet). But, from the first day, I've been enamored with bearded dragons and chinese water dragons. I don't know why -- I just love 'em. But, I never thought my roommate would go for me having one in the house. You know, especially since she made me promise I'd have no other pets
. But, for whatever reason, she's buying me a beardie and the entire set-up for my b-day!

We've been discussing it for a while, but I never thought she'd go for it. And, I was on the fence about whether I wanted a bearded dragon or chinese water dragon, but finally made the decision that a beardie was right for me. And, since then, I've been talking about it non-stop. I guess she finally got sick of hearing me -- ha ha
-- because she let it slip that I was getting one today. We even went to one of the local pet stores (PetSmart, but not the one I work at) to look at the beardies and I found one that I fell in love
with. Actually, there were two that I really liked, but the brattier one just stole my heart. I'm going to be getting everything during this week and then I should be bringing him home some time this weekend (probably Saturday). I can't hardly wait! And, unfortunately, the pet store wasn't willing to hold him for me with payment so I'm on pins and needles with fear that the one I love will be gone by this weekend. But, the workers assured me that he wasn't likely to go anywhere too quickly as he's about a year old and their babies sell quicker (which is true at my store as well). But, still, cross your fingers that he's there this weekend!

I have learned a lot about bearded dragons and have been doing my research, but does anyone here have (or have had in the past) a beardie? Do you know of any good forums, such as this one, for bearded dragons? Any experience, advice, or, well, anything, would be appreciated. I know the basics, but there's nothing better than first-hand experience. My coworkers have beardies and I'll be grilling them over the next week (and then some!) but I could always use some more advice. For as much as I've learned, I know how little I actually know!

I'm just so excited and I can't wait. Name suggestions are welcome too. It's going to be a male -- that's all I know so far since I can't guarantee my fave little guy will be there. Oh, and he'll about 10-12 months old. Aaahhh! I can't wait until this weekend! And, tomorrow...even if I'll be turning a dreadful age
.

Of course I can look up what a bearded dragon is since I don't know but I bet you that most of us would really like to see a picture. Can you provide us with one?
BTW, yesterday I attended my niece's 27th birthday!!

Here is a pic of a bearded dragon I found off of Google. This is not my beardie, but he does look similar to the one I hope to get (the one I want has a more golden tone to him):

I'm not up on all the terminology -- especially where color is concerned, so here is an article from Wikipedia about beardies as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bearded...n_in_captivity. If you scroll down the page, on the left hand side, there is a picture of a bearded dragon from a zoo that has more of the coloration I was referring to.

Once I have my little guy, I'll definitely post pics of him and his set-up, but, for now, this is the best I can do. Maybe someone will come along with a better picture or more information. And, who knows, as I do my research, I may come across some additional info that's worth sharing here.

Oh, and happy birthday to your niece
!

Even though Allison isn't getting a beardie now, I thought I would add in some pics for the curious:

Here's Meka, she passed on in mid 2009....she was my baby:

Visit this beardie forum

I have been a member there for years. Love it!
Beardies need a VERY big enclosure and proper heat levels. Do not put them on sand. They also need a varied diet.

My brothers and I had a bearded dragon for awhile when we were younger. He was a good pet. Enjoy and take good care of him!

From your previous postings, I know you will
