On December 26, 5 years ago, a massive wave killed over 250,000 people.
I forgot to remember them this year, I was so caught up in my weather.

I too am guilty of being caught up in my own things to remember. R.I.P to all those who died. x

I remembered because I was flipping through channels, the History channel had on a program with the tsunami. It was horrible to see, Peoples home videos at first just currious about the wave, then, well yeah.

One year earlier on the same date my two grandnephews were killed in an earthquake. I did not forget. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/3348613.stm That is part of the reason I posted the sad Christmas thread (it was Christmas here when I learned about their deaths). And I believe the massive wave was also Christmas here but December 26 there. It is easy to forget things that are so important. There are those that have ideas on why so many bad things happen on this date. And a simple search on the internet will reveal so many bad things that have happened on this date (Christmas in the U.S.). What does it all mean?

I hadn't forgotten. I was at work, and we had CNN on, and they showed the old footage. That was a terrible, terrible thing.

I hadn't forgotten. Every year on December 26 I think of Hurricane Lothar (1999) and the tsunami, the latter having been far, far, far worse.

Hubby and I were thinking of the tsunami, the lucky survivors, and those hundreds of thousands of people, plus all the animals who were not so lucky.

I think it wasn't as big a deal in the US because not as many US citizens, whereas as an Australian I was really shaken by it, since a lot of popular Australian holiday destinations were wiped out, as were many Australians travelling with their families for their Christmas holidays.

An absolutely horrific day
