Bravo, Rianna! Way to fight for your little man! I'm so glad Teddy seems to be doing better.

I am still concerned about the urinary issue. He may not have a UTI (which is a bacterial infection) but something is causing him to pee too often and too little.
I agree completely, there has to be a reason for Teddy's problem in the first place. If it were me, I would insist on a complete urinalysis/culture.

How will you keep an eye on things over the weekend?

This story sure is crazy and got out of hand quick! Thank you for posting it, I wish there was more I could do to help. Too bad he bites, a lot of people seem to think it is okay for cats to bite people. I know he is your baby. I think someone should take care of the original (re:real) issue for sure, so he doesn't suffer any more. The skull and cross bones are tacky and juvenile and need to come down.

This is a crazy situation, and I definitely don't think Teddy was to blame at all! Cats will bite when they feel threatened, in pain, and/or scared. He displayed all the warning signs, hissing and squirming....What did he expect, Teddy to start licking him and purring? Cats don't submit to physical dominance.....Sounds to me like this vet and employees are inexperienced and Teddy is the victim. You know how many times I have been scratched or even bitten by cats? I just don't understand how they have the right to quarantine when they know the kitty history and owner?!

I agree with you. Many cats can be sweet as pie until they are brought to the vet. It's ridiculous. Vets and vet techs are bit every day of the week. It's part of the job.

I understand the rabies laws. But in my opinion, based on this thread, someone took Teddy biting personally, which is the stupidest thing ever.

I wonder, have you received any sort of apology from anyone? I do hope his urinary tract issue has been diagnosed by now. I get so involved and worried.

Still thinking of you and your kitty. Glad that they are treating him with more respect. Keep doing good for your kitty, you are his voice. Good Job!!

I hope his issue is figured out soon, and they get him started to recovery.

Be Safe

Oh my! I just read through this thread. What a horrible thing for you and Teddy to go through! You are awesome for sticking up for Teddy in a no-nonsense determined way. I think I would have been a lot more emotional and raised the roof, that's just the way I am. But calmly putting your foot down was great!
This story scares the heck out of me. Thai bit me a couple months ago and my finger got infected, then I had a reaction to the tetanus shot. My Dr never even asked if he was up to date. Thai is....but Spud is not. (Both are indoors only) I know now never to tell that Spud bit me, if he ever does in the future. I'm afraid if he ever bites a vet or tech....they have his records. I'll be sure to insist that they take precautions if they have to poking around. He's 15 and sometimes he gets cranky when his hips are petted too hard.
I can not imagine what you and Teddy have been going through. Hugs to you both!

IA. If you need me, just meow..
I just read this whole thread and my heart goes out to you. I understand your situation as we were in it about a year back.
Twig had issues peeing, and so we took him to the "er" vet in Bettendorf. While there the first thing I told them it Twig doesn't like to be touched in the tummy or he might bite. So what happens??? You guessed it, they messed with his tummy trying to check his bladder and well, he bit the vet tech... SHe came into the waiting room with a piece of paper telling me that her "manager" said she had to fill this thing out just in case... In case of what? I don't know, but I was instantly livid! Then I'm still fuming and she goes back into the backroom where Twig was and decides that she's going to be a smart
and says, " there's that nasty cat." Um... Do you realize I can HEAR you!? Are you seriously kidding me? I exploded! I got my cat and left telling them how unprofessional they were and if I ever have to come back, they will be letting me hold my cat and NOONE else. Oh I was an angry chatterbox.......I've never seen so many jaws hit the floor at the same time! I will never take my cat there again if I don't have to. I might kill someone if I do...
I hate stupid people that do seriously stupid things. that Teddy comes back soon and infection free.. (((HUGS)))

Good for you. You definitely need to take a stand and fight for Teddy, they seem to be treating him as "just another dangerous cat", rather than treating his individual case. I'm glad they're taking better care of him, and the Medical Director is now involved. Sending lots of
to Teddy.

Thank you again everyone for your continued support. It really makes feel so much better that there are TCSers out there following Teddy's story.

And now for an update on Teddy-gate, Day 4:

The vet called me this morning before I could call her. (That was a shocker! I guess I really scared them.) Teddy has tested negative for everything mentioned here. He's peeing more when he goes and is using the litter box less frequently. His bladder is still small and unblocked. I guess the pain medication is making a difference and he seems to be on the mend. From what they have told me (and what I have researched) about FLUTD, it's symptoms can last 3-5 days and it's trigger is just sometimes mysterious.

I just got back from visiting Teddy. They brought him in a room and I was actually allowed to be with him. I was there for over an hour and a half!

The vet tech that brought me to the room was very nice and seemed to really like Teddy. He told me that when they clean out Teddy's cage they put him in his "magic box," which is this cardboard box that they keep in his cage. Apparently, he will not move while he's in the box and just watches the techs clean the cage. I'm so glad that Teddy has a friend there who sees what a funny cat he really is.

Teddy was so happy to see me, he didn't know what to do. He ran back and fourth head-butting my boyfriend and I for at least half an hour. I tried to play with him since I know how hard it must be to be cooped up in a cage, but all he wanted to do was rub up against me and be pet..... and I was more than happy to comply. Teddy is acting like normal, which has me so happy. I took a couple pictures even though it was difficult since he kept rubbing up against my phone.

Teddy and his magic box.

Being able to actually spend some time with Teddy and seeing happy and healthier really made my New Year's Eve. I won't be able to visit him until Monday due to the holiday tomorrow and I have to work all day Saturday and Sunday. (Although, I think I may send my sister on Saturday...) I will be keeping this thread up to date with any news I get on Teddy. Thank you everyone again for the support. I don't know what I would have done without all of you!

The vet just called me to let me know that the doors will be open between 2 and 3 tomorrow if I want to visit and I will be getting a phone call between 11 and 11:30 am with an update tomorrow.

That makes TWO times in one day that I have been called by them on their own. Can we say progress?... or fear? lol

I'm glad the director took the sign down.....how idiotic for them to put it up to begin with. Since they have called you now a couple of times, and since they've told you that you can go in to visit again tomorrow, maybe they realized that they've acted stupidly throughout this whole thing.

Cats, even very well-behaved cats, will sometimes be aggressive during a vet visit, esp when they're not feeling well. Poor Teddy cooped up like that. I'm so glad that he's feeling better!

He's a very handsome fellow.

But you know what? As soon as you can get that boy out there? Change vets. He doesn't deserve to be treated that way. (And if you could file some kind of complaint, so much the better.)

Sending Teddy lots of ((((hugs))))

Aww, I'm over here, welling up with tears of happiness that you got to hold him and stuff. It's a crazy situation, but it sounds like you handled it really well, and have gotten results. I hope it continues to improve!

I'm going to mark on the calendar when Albus and Luna are due for their shots and get them a week earlier!

ETA: Oh, and another biased tuxie mom here, too!

What a handsome boy!! I'm so glad things are on a more positive note now!! Bravo for you sticking up for your boy, and you can see what your love has done for him. Being his human, and letting them know how it was

I think that this thread, and your little Teddy's story, and how things turned around made for a great end of the year happy ending for 2009!! I love happy endings! I hope things continue to go this way.

Be safe, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful new year. I will be excited to read further updates.

Shadey sends happy purrrrssss Teddy's way.
