I'm 28 years old and have grown up with cats my entire life except for a 6.5 year hiatus (college). My parents were divorced since I was 1 year old, and they've both been cat owners. My dad has had two tabbies that look like the "Morris" kind. Kind of loud and yappy if you ask me. Kind of tries to rule the house. I liked him, but he didn't floor me. He lived 17 years (had feline leukemia, too for something absurd like 10 years) and was an indoor/outdoor cat. After his passing, my dad was given a similar looking cat. Similar behavior: talkative, rules the roost. I like him but not floored. They both shed like crazy mofos.

My mom has a tabby mutt mix (no real identifiable heritage) that we always said was brain damaged "or the best natured cat ever." She was a great cat and lived 18 years, but she frequently liked to annoy me while I was sleeping for no apparent reason. She kept me company when I was home alone (latch key kid) or depressed/sick. I was devastated when she had to be put down at 18 due to (I think) kidney failure.

Since then I have started researching cats because I wanted the first cats I rescued to be more tailored toward my personality (intelligent and "hypoallergenic"). I stumbled on to Russian Blue thanks to google, and I my first impression was that they were "magnificent" looking.

I really like my two russian blue baby boys. One is a true adventurer, a great leaper, a lapper, and wants to help with whatever you're doing. The other is a total sweet heart, a protector, and very courteous. They both don't talk much or scratch the bedroom door/beg for food, etc.

They are very responsive to having behaviors modified (for treats or massage). They have very soft, plush fur. They like to stay clean. They are very responsive to who is most depressed or unhappy each day and try like hell to cheer up that person (me or my girlfriend). Here's the best part... other than a week's worth of zyrtec, they haven't irritated my allergies any further. Same with my girlfriend. Also, they haven't thrown up yet and I've had them almost 4 months. I think that's some sort of cat record or something. lol

Sorry. I just would hate to see this breed die out. They are such great cats.

Do you have registration papers for them, or do they just match Russian Blue appearance?

They aren't like.. pedigreed "these are russian blues from Gizmo" or something like that. But we've taken them to 3 vets and they all confirm that they are russian blues (most definitely mixed).

Plus I saw on Cats 101, I have one cat that looks like he could be show worthy - good smiling appearance, great lean muscular body, immaculate fur, beautiful green eyes.

The other cat I have is like Marcus (if you've seen Cats 101 with the russian blue) with a more regal appearance and less show-worthy. Oddly, he's the one that plays fetch and can open doors, etc, skiddish...

Majority of vets don't know a whole lot about breeds. A cat isn't a breed unless you have the papers, otherwise it's just speculation. Moggies can have qualities found in purebreds, but are still moggies - and there's nothing wrong with moggies.

I have a couple of friends who breed Russians (blue, black & whites), and know a few owners. They are pretty cats, but not quite active enough for me

I'm glad you've found such joy in your blue kitties.

That's like saying without knowing your heritage you can't call yourself "white" or something. Of course you can. I never said they were purely bred.

Vet opinions + http://russianblue.info/bluecats/bluecats.htm - Profile definitely matches Russian Blue, same with Ears, Head, and Coat and Color.

Plus, the young one, is a spitting image of the first two cats on this site.
