The beau and I were talking the other night and I told him that when I moved in I would always have dinner on the table for him, and I would send something with him to the office every week! He claims I will only keep it up for like 2 weeks, so I am going to prove him wrong on the days I am there!
I only go up there on weekends right now, and the past 2 weekends we have had friends up and stuff so we have gone out, but I have sent cookies with him to work 2 weeks so far! I've quickly become a big hit there! LOL! But I am quickly running out of recipes! I have lots of cheesecake recipes cause I love baking cheesecakes but not a lot of others! So I am starting a file on the computer tonight of recipes and I was wondering if any of you guys had any you would like to share!
I am looking for:
Things to send like cupcakes, cookies, bars, brownies stuff that is easy to share
Dinners for 2 - 4 people.
The type of meals where you make one main ingredient and use it for dinner multiple nights (make any sense?)

I get a LOT of recipes of bettycrocker.com. You can search by what type of ingredients you have on hand or what type of cuisine you are in the mood for. I'll just give you the names of a few of my favorite things from there that I can think of off the top of my head...

Dessert: Candy cane cake (super easy, very yummy!), Raspberry bars (not sure the exact name on that one),

Dinner: Tandoori style chicken (yummy! have this one marinating right now), Cowboy stew (crock pot recipe), Mexican Beef Stew (also a crock pot recipe), Impossibly Easy BBQ Beef pie, Mediterranean Couscous and Beans, Mexican Polenta Pie

That's the best my brain can do at the moment. I have a binder I keep with the recipes I've printed off in plastic protector sheets. I like to make notes on them of what I thought of the dish or cooking tips, etc. I also like their recipes because they often have ones that require say leftover chicken cut up. Helpful when you are only feeding 2. Plus they have scaled down recipes and quick fix ones, etc. I get their e-mails but haven't been spending as much time looking at them lately.

Why don't you look for one of those recipe books that only need 3-4 ingredients? I have one of those and the recipes are great!

We are big meat eaters. Although he will eat anything! He went to China and ate Blood, Ducks Tongue, Pigs Stomach, and so much more stuff that made me want to gag!


I love Allrecipes.com and recipezaar.com
Both are great! I'm hoping to get a nice recipe book and get some recipes that have been in my family for forever!

Get a crock pot! I have one where you can set the timer and when the time is up it goes to warm. It's awesome. Throw some chicken in there on Sunday, then make sandwiches, or chicken salad, or chicken noodle soup all week. There are lots of chicken recipes.

mmm sounds good. I have a crock pot somewhere.... never used it for more than cocktail weinies! LOL!

Add a bit of sugar to your sauce and I guarantee everyone will love it.


I prefer crock pot cooking to most anything else. When it comes to making stew and such I just start with broth and add whatever sounds good.

In case you ever get stuck and have to make something quick, you might want to keep a package of Pillsbury refrigerated sugar cookies around. They're not great as-is, but at Christmas, I rolled them in raw sugar, made a thumbprint in the middle, and put a tiny dab of jam in there before I baked them. I used Smucker's Red Plum, and it was goooooood!

I bet it would work to roll them in finely-chopped pecans and put a little piece of chocolate in the center, too -- haven't tried it yet, though!

Yes! A touch of sweetness really makes it! We use a sweet red wine to get that effect.

I'm a huuuuge cookbook fan, although most of mine are vegetarian. I do have some that I would recommend to meat eaters:

For cookies, you can't beat a classic like Betty Crocker's Cooky book. Open up the book to a page at random, and make whatever you find
My grandma has the original publication, and gifted my sister and I the reprint. Can't beat the chocolate chip cookie recipe in it.

For just about everything else, How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman. Literally, you have an ingredient, you'll find something to do with it in here.

If you really want to impress him, try baking your own bread. I have had three million bread disasters until I got the book Kneadlessly Simple. It uses long, slow rises to cut out the need to knead, and the breads are FABULOUS. Even my picky bread snob of a husband (who only eats pita bread), loves the bread I make here. Nothing makes a meal look fabulously complex and time consuming than homemade bread
But really, the breads in this book take all of 20 minutes to make, over a day or 2. Mix everything together, stick it in the fridge for a few hours, take it out, let it rise for 12+ hours, stir once halfway through, then stir in a few more ingredients, let rise for 2 hours, then back. Really really simple, so even a horrible baker like me can make fabulous breads.

And, because I can't resist pushing awesome vegetarian cooking (fwiw, we're not vegetarians. I'm a meat minimalist who eats meat once or twice a week. The husband is a big meat eater, although with good vegetarian cooking, I've reduced his meat consumption to just once a day
), I recommend you at least look at:

Love Soup - a million beyond delicious soup recipes. You could make them with a chicken or beef base I suppose, and they'd work out just fine. If you cook a big pot of soup on the weekends, it can be eaten for several days with dinner, reducing what you need to serve for the rest of the meal.

One of my favorites is cabbage rolls or, meatballs and cabbage, that is the easy way, no rolling the stuff up, and tases just great!
It is super easy and not many ingredients to fuss with!
I don't have exact measurements, I add stuff till it tastes good.

2 lbs Hamburger
salt and pepper (to taste)
Garlic powder, or real garlic, and lots of it.
1 cup minute rice, not cooked, or pre-cooked regular rice
2 pieces of white bread soaked in two eggs till mushy

Mash all that up like making a meatloaf and form into balls of whatever size you like. (there was no non dirty sounding way of typing that, lol)

Cut a head of cabbage into wedges. Leave the middle thingy on or it will fall apart.

The sauce:
2 cans of Campbells tomato soup + 1 can water. The garlic and juice from the meat seasons the sauce, no need to add anything!

Put it all in a crock pot, or you can bake it, or let it low simmer in an electric fry pan, its all good!

Many meals, you can eat as is, make sandwiches from the meat balls, serve with noodles, or rice, or taters. Also the meat is a good stuffing for peppers! Same sauce.
You can also crumble it all up and make a really good cassarole with some sauteed mushrooms, noodles and some Parm. or Romano cheese on top.
I am hungry now.

if you like chocolate then you should invest in the Hershey's Chocolate Lover's Cookbook...it is seriously amazing for cookies and other desserts.

I have a recipe for a really easy bar to make that tastes AMAZING even though it sounds really weird.

Take a box of ritz crackers and crush it up. Put in a bowl and add one can of condensed milk and a bag of skor bites. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.

They are soooo yummy. My husband made some and I brought them to work and asked people to guess the ingredients. I was getting all sorts of weird answers. Most people thought it tasted like rice krispies. Everyone loved them.

I'm a big crock pot user, throw everything in the bowl in the morning and come home to a mouthwatering dinner.
