We have an 14-year-old female cat (indoors only) that is in great health and is still very young. She is as active as ever. We recently welcomed a newborn into our family and this has upset the cat. This is our second child, so she's been through the newborn thing before and was fine. She has started to urinate under the new crib. She only does it from time to time. We use quality litter, but admittedly, don't clean it daily as other posts have recommended. I am also going to use the black light and thoroughly clean the area. I have also read that using some citrus scents will keep her away. There also was mention of using tin foil. We have a generic version of "Feliway". Is there any other recommendations or ideas to stop the peeing?

Thanks

And...congratulations on your new baby.

The first thing you need to do is to have your cat checked for a urinary tract infection. The number one symptom of a UTI is peeing outside the box. Stress is a common cause of UTIs so it is not uncommon for cats to develop this illness when there has been a big (and noisy) change in the household.

If your vet gives your cat a clean bill of health, please click here to read many ideas on how to stop inappropriate urination.

Also...please scoop often. I know that you probably find it pretty icky to have to sit on a dirty and unflushed toilet to do your thing. Just imagine if you had to put your bare feet in old pee and poop when you needed to potty. The combination of stress and a dirty box will most certainly lead to inappropriate urination!
