Speck was asleep and I was petting Marshmallow. I happened to look up and noticed Speck was watching me with this lookon his face. So I started over to pet him, knowing he is a little jealous. He put his head down and acted as if he was asleep. Like he'd been asleep the whole time. It sounds crazy, but I know Speck was trying to play it off, pretending he didn't care if I petted some other cat. What do you think?

My kitty gets jealous when i talk to my betta fish. She meows non stop, paws at the back of my legs, and rolls over so that i will notice and pet her tummy! No hiding it

I think Speck was pretending he didn't care. Or playing hard to get. "HE'S no pushover for a stroke or pat, like that Marshmallow cat!" Cats have more complex brains than many give them credit for!

Hiding from my SS!
My boys get jealous when I pay attention to my parent's cats Onyx and Romeo. For some reason neither of them seems to get upset when I pay attention to the other one. They are a 'set' I guess they know I am human to both of them.

They do the pretending to be asleep thing sometimes, usually when I am trying to get their attention, and they hear me but don't want to pay attention.

Oh yeah!! I always bend down when I'm petting the cats and if I'm petting Flutterby or Fluffy, Tales will march under my legs and meow and purr and squeak until I pet her. That's a different jelous though isn't it. I guess my cats are less discrete about being jelous.

I think it's more like being heartbroken than jealous. When my Ni sees me petting Joji (both sleep with me) he stares for a while and then turns away like he is going to cry or something.

It could be the second reason indeed. Speck probably thinks that Marshmallow cat is as a loathsome creature, an insult to felines everywhere with all the acting cute
and sweet for attention.

If we want to find Cindy, DH just has to pay some attention to Swanie and there she is. She'll give him a little meow! too. Like, don't pet him! Pet me! I can pet Swanie all day and night and Cindy doesn't care one bit, just jealous of DH
I tell him he is her boyfriend
