Hi guys.

My 11 mnth old Cammie received a scratch to her cornea yesterday; I took her to the vet who prescribed Chlorsig eye drops every 2 hours, doxycycline half tablet in the morning and half at night and one tolfedine tablet every 24 hours.

This is the 3rd time this cat has received a scratch to her eye; this time the vet trimmed her nails and our other cats nails and we are buying softpaws (plastic claw covers)

We always managed to get her eye drops in the 2 other times but this time my wife is working during the day so I am home alone to do the drops and she seems to have gotten wiser and smarter to avoid the drops buy squirming like mad no matter how much I try to calm her down.

Have you any tips on how to eye drop a squirmy kitty a stubburn one at that?
I dont want to cause her any more stress than I have to as I am sure lack of stress will heal the eye faster than lack of eye drops?

Thanks
Scott

When I've had to give eye drops by myself, I wrap the kitty in a towel like a burrito, then place them up on a high surface like the bed, top of the washer, or kitchen counter. I tuck them under my arm and use my body as a shield so the can't back up and fall off the counter, then tip the head back towards my chest and drop the drop. My DH gets them under his left arm while he's sitting in the oversized chair and puts their bottom to the back of the chair. Then, he tilts the head back and drops the drop.

Tried that but she squirms too much and breaks free.
My wife is going to be home in a few mins so we will try it together and hope we can get it working as she hasnt had any drops in her eye all day but from what I can gather if she is sleeping with her eyes closed (which she has done the majority of the day) then she shouldnt really need the eyedrops? they are antibiotics are they not? chlorsig so if we keep her eye clean and she keeps her eye shut for the most part the hopefully she gets better.
At least that is what happened last time and the time before that.

Kitty still needs the antibiotic drops, regardless of her sleeping/keeping eyes closed most of the time. With a scratch to the eye (particularly due to another cat's claw; one that's in litterboxes and in contact with other germ-infested surfaces), high risk of bacterial infection happening. Administer all meds that the Vet has prescribed, according to how they were prescribed.

her eye is looking alot better since yesterday.
we were only able to administer 1 drop into her eye today but we did try all day.
She had her pain pills tonight and her antibiotic pill too.
we have a vet checkup on tuesday so we will see how the eye is doing then.
