My mom got me one of these for Christmas. I set it up in my room last night. I really like it! It looks nice up on a shelf and gives off that lit candle glow, but nothing will catch on fire if the cats knock it over.

So far it scents up the whole room, but the smell is only supposed to last for a week on the shades so thats a drawback. I have read that you can put a bit of scented oil on it to extend the life of the shades instead of buying new ones. I am going to buy some of the Febreeze room spray in the same scent as the shade I have and spritz that on mine when the scent fades, and I'll let everyone know if that helps it last longer.

I know I can't be the only one who likes to have candles lit but is afraid because they aren't safe around the cats! Has anybody else tried these, what do you think?

I'll have to try them! I miss having all those "smell good" things. I gave up on candles almost 10 years ago, when Cleo tried to set herself on fire (she burned off all of her eyebrow whiskers!)

I'm thinking that rout may be better for me after this morning. I am curious to know how that works. I am scared to try new scents and cleaners cuz I know a lot of them are bad for our sweet little felines.

Be safe.

Its a battery operated base with a light in it that flickers like a candle. You turn it on with a switch and set the shade over the top, the light will only come on when the shade is in place. The shade is made of a thick paper which is scented with some sort of air freshner, I don't know what it is though. The package said to keep it out of reach of animals and avoid eye contact due to the oils the shade is dipped in. It doesn't seem to be a respiratory irritant to my cats, and its not something you're going to let them play with. I'm sure like everything else somebody (or somekitty) will be allergic to it of course. But even with that it seems much safer than an open flame!

I've seen the advertisements on them, and thought they looked like a great alternative. I think I am going to be asking my hubby to grab me one next pay day! I just can't get that sound and the flames on her out of my head...

I have one. I find it lasts for longer than a week, its just not as strong after a week. I change it every couple weeks.

Be safe.
Not just felines, chemicals aren't so great for humans either

I think some of the Glade stuff is made with essential oils, those are bad for cats.

We had one a while back but it didn't last for very long. We never got refills for it since we had to get rid of all smelly items due to Riley's breathing problems.

I don't care for air fresheners and scents and such -- but I love those little battery-operated votives! You can put them into a votive holder and they give a lovely glow. I got them three-for-a-dollar once at Bed Bath & Beyond!
