I took Whisky in to see about his ear and open sore. I can take care of his ear with my next unemploynent check, but the vet said he thinks the sore on his stomach is a tumor because of a small mass around it. It would cost about $600 to take care of and at his age, I worry. He is 16 1/2 now.
I've had a cone on his head for some time. I'm trying to see if it will scab and heal up. I took his cone off for 2 minutes and he was licking it clean.

Now, it has gotten to smelling really bad, even after cleaning it. Any ideas? As soon as I get back into town, I'm going for another opinion.

Thanks!

I would be concerned if it is indeed that smelly that it is infected, and not just on the "outside" so to speak, but a penetrating deeper infection. I say that because Squishy has had several abscesses & they are quite stinky, moreso than just an infected cut.

the smell is a giveaway, and the infection could go systemic.

Did the Vet not even consider putting kitty on a proper antibiotic so that if the smelly discharge is due to an infected abscess that this might help a lot? If the smelly stuff is due to a bacterial infection, the antibiotic will help. If it doesn't help at all, that could lean more toward it being some type of tumor.

If your cat is tough to pill, there's a really good antibiotic that's a one-time injection (it lasts 14 days) called Convenia; it's intended use in cats is for soft tissue infections. Ask your Vet about this.

I'm with the others here. I wouldn't mess with that... smell=infection and not good!
