Whatever we do tomorrow, it needs to be cheap - the girl here is unemployed, so I am pretty broke
- But I certainly can drive, and TV dinner is fine - Pub is fine too, although it comes with a bill and that is not.

As for your house or my house... your house! - my house is a mess

So, wanna do it?
Have a mini orphan TCS X-mas?
I thought Highland Park was the Beverley Hills of Dallas! I thought all "you people" were rich!
OK, it is a done deal. Come to my house. Addison is only one mile away and I know the Turkish restaurant at least will be open all day as well as others, we can look on the internet. As I told the cat lovers that came to my house last year, it is Persian tradition (I am married to a Persian) to treat when inviting people so tomorrow will be on me. I am going to PM you my address and phone number and we will go from there. WE WILL NOT SPEND CHRISTMAS ALONE.

P.S., if you know how to cook, I have two freezers full of food. But after you meet Persi and I go up to the third floor and dig Alley out of her hiding place to meet you, we will probably want to go out to celebrate. Stand by for PM. BTW if there is anybody else in this location that would otherwise spend tomorrow alone, PM me immediataly!

Keep us informed. If by some fluke we can't go up to OKC in the morning, maybe we can make it a party!

I've had some sad Christmases myself. One year I had Lean Cuisine lasagne alone---how sad is that?

I have about 2 inches of snow here in north central Texas. The wind is blowing like crazy and the snow keeps falling. There have been 6 white Christmases since 1890, so they are rare indeed.

Hope all who are spending this holiday alone find at least a glimmer of joy and peace.

Hugs,

Cally
Hugs to you and your advice has been taken and it is a done deal, we will be meeting together tomorrow thanks to your suggestion. Now why the heck did I not think of that?????

I know you have more than enough experience to handle a (smaller) vehicle in bad weather - but the other OK drivers are bad. They go off the roads here when there's just a little rain.
The city is getting a bit more snow, but less wind. We got less snow, but a lot more wind - and we're not leaving town tomorrow.

I will totally vouch for Lee. Your hospitality is outstanding and your conversation very engaging. You made me feel completely at home when I stayed there for the TCS get together.

Carolina - if you go to Lee's house, you can see his elevator and you will laugh long and hard at Persi's antics. That boy is all character!!

My brother has just spent about 4 hours going 10 miles on the east side of OKC. And he may still end up spending the night at the truck stop.

I heard (I think on NPR) that more people commit suicide on Christmas than any other day. Most of us just do not understand or even begin to comprehend what a lonely Christmas is like. I was brought up Christian so I understand. I married a Muslim but we beame Unitarians. If you understand what Uni means than you understand the religion. Of course DW is in a non Christian country today (Cambodia) and thus non Christmas. I was just going to forget the whole thing and just posted this thread because I knew there were others that due to their upbringing felt like tomorrow was going to be a horrible day. And I am under doctor's orders to take Valium, but I am not laughing nor high (damn it).

I am going to enjoy being with another of our TCS members tomorrow and having spent some time in Sao Paulo (perhaps the largest city in the world, only the 2010 census will tell), I think we may even find some things other than cats to talk about.

Persi & Alley and carolinalima- I hope you have fun and your Christmas is made easier by spending it together.
I can only imagine what it must feel like to have to spend the holidays alone missing someone you always spend it with..
I miss my extended family (grandparents and aunts and uncles), it is just not the same without being able to go and say merry christmas to all of my cousins and aunts and uncles and celebrate together. I have so many good memories of my grandmother's cooking when I was younger, all of the traditions we had, it was the best time of year for me when all of my family lived at the same place. Now it is just blah, a day like any other. It doesn't make me sad but the only way the holiday season can make me happy is through memories.

Yeah, what's this about your brother's? Maybe if Mike cannot go to OK, then all us people should get together. But it sounds like you already have plans and will not sit around dejected tomorrow. And of course Mike has Dottie. But Carolina and I have nobody tomorrow. But still, it would be very nice if we could get together tomorrow. Let's see how Mike's weather conditions are coming along and let us hear what you say and we will go from there.

But at least one thing has come from this thread: two of us in the Dallas area do not have to spend Christmas alone and if there is anybody else out there in the area who will be alone please let us know, we want to include you!!!!

If you and Mke are as smart as I think you are; you still have my phone number somewhere. The moderators will not let me put it here but if you need it; just tell me. I am going to bed early but will be up early.

Last year was very disappointing... We were supposed to go to my family's big Christmas party (my aunts/uncles/cousins) and when we went to start the car we found that the tires on the curb side were stuck about 1/4 of the way up in ice. It had rained and the rain ran along the gutters but it had nowhere to go since the ground was frozen, so there was a river of water collected along the curb. Then the temp dropped and it froze. We couldn't get the car to break free of the ice. My neighbor nicely offered to give us a tow out but then they couldn't even get their huge SUV out! So we stayed home and ordered pizza.
This year it's supposed to be raining but I am really hoping it doesn't freeze...

I know deep in my heart that I am grateful to be with my family for christmas this year, and to also have my fiance here during this wonderful holiday season, but five years ago Christmas day was pretty much... wrecked.

ALL of the days leading up to and after december 25th are amazing usually, filled with happy times and family and friends, good food, cheer.

But in 2004 at 6 AM the phone rang while we were all still in bed and a few moments later I heard an awful blood curdling scream from the basement.

I will never ever forget the way that my mother sounded when she got the news that her father had just passed away. Six hours from now it will be that time again, and though I will be happy to watch the kids open their presents and to be with my family, I still miss my grandpa and have a lot of regrets about my behavior towards the end of his time here on earth.

So christmas day is always a little sad for me, and this year since I am back in the state I was hoping to be able to go see his grave on Christmas, but it looks like there is a pretty nasty ice storm making it's way towards us tonight and I'm not sure how that will interfere with my plans...

I know what you mean... I lost someone on Christmas when I was a teenager and I can't even really think about it too much even now because I get too upset.

Christmas was a beautiful thing when I was a child, but became a time of depression and loneliness as the years passed. It took several years to adjust to spending Christmas alone, not having family. I have to say that today I am happy to spend Christmas with Maia, receive my TCS SS gift and exchange cards with some friends! I am thankful for these things, especially Maia who sometimes gives me this look of "Ok mom, enough already!"

Make the best of your Merry Christmas!

Have you all seen the M*A*S*H episode where the soldier dies just a few minutes after midnight, early on Christmas morning? Hawkeye Pierce turns the clock back, so Christmas won't forever be a bad memory for his family.

Lee, PM me your phone number. I believe I recently deleted the one about our Dallas get together, where it was before. Not sure about our plans, but maybe we can at least drop by something for you guys to enjoy on our way north if we do go up to OKC (where all the interstates are still officially closed).
