I have 3 males, 2 of whom have had urinary issues. I've been buying Purina Prescription UR food, but it's $30 a bag! With 3 cats, that gets expensive! Is there anything a touch cheaper? Anything you would recommend?

I would not recommend taking your males off the prescription food.

Urinary tract problems can cause sudden blockages in males, and males die within 24 hours after blocking without emergency vet treatment. And it is a terrible death for them.

Keeping them on the proper food regardless of cost will save you money in the long run because emergency vet treatment, stone removal surgeries, and perineal urethrostomy surgery are all very expensive.

There are other prescription foods available, but don't know how they are comparable pricewise as you did not say what size bag $30 pays for.

The Hill's prescription c/d multicare my Mazy eats costs $35 for a 10 pound bag.

If you can find the food cheaper elsewhere, you can ask your vet to write a prescription for the food.

I suggest TALKING with your VET about this ... There are many brands making rx foods for this issue. As mentioned by Otto some cats do need to stay on rx foods... Others can sometimes go back to reg otc foods with a VETS guidence.
