hi every one....i really need ur expertise in sphynx kitten..few days ago, my family and i went to visit a sphynx breeder, and we fall inlove with one of his kitten. i asked him more about how to care for a sphynx kitten and the differences about sphynx kitten and other breeds. he kindly explains to me about their skin, ears and diet. there is a big question now, when he told me that sphynx kittens has a loose stool and its normal. as being a mum with different kind of breed like british shorthair, maine coon, persians, chinchilla, all my kitten doesn't have any loose stools because i always observe nutritional and their diets. my questions is, before i adopt a sphynx kitten, i would like to know from all the expertise sphynx mum out there, is it true that sphynx has a loose stools not like other breeds that has a normal stool. please help me as soon as possible. i spent almost 2 days doing research but there's nothing about their bowels pattern. peace upon everyone...

What food is the breeder feeding the sphynx and how old is the kitten.
Some foods domake sphynx sick.
Sounds tome like the kitten could be sick.
My sphynx only get like that when they eat certain foods.
Is the breeder in Singapore.
Some sphynx do have sensitive stomachs.
My older sphynx gets hives if she eat the wrong food.
You can try feeding the kitten plain baby food.
Chicken or Turkey will work.
You need to ask the breeder more questions.
I would hate for you to end up with a kitten that will have problems.

While Sphynx may have a more sensitive system, IMO there is NO excuse for claiming the breed is prone to loose stools. That doesn't make a bit of sense. Loose stools in kittens can cause a lot of problems like dehydration, etc. and if severe you can loose the kitten quickly.

While the breeder may have been nice in explaining things to you - the fact about Sphynx having loose stools is "natural" is wrong - I would never buy from a breeder who told me that.

I use Royal Canin kitten 36 for my sphynx kitten and never had a problem with it.
It can cause loose stools in some sphynx though.
My older sphynx can not Royal Canin 33 because she gets hives.
When I you getting the kitten?

Can the kitten be checked by a vet?
I would hate for you to have a kitten with nothing but problems.
I know there are not a lot of sphynx breeders in Singapore.

Not normal. My Sphynx does not always have a loose stool. Maybe her Sphynx have parasites or giardia or something else that can be fixed with medications. I would ask the breeder to have the kitten checked out by a vet first before the sale if that is something you can request in Singapore.

Hi Catsmum,

No, it is not "normal" for a sphynx to have loose stools! Yes, these cats look different, and require slightly different care (i.e. weekly baths and extra ear cleaning, etc.) but, remember - they are still cats! It is never normal for a cat to have loose stools. Like other members have posted, frequent diarrhea can cause problems like dehydration. Loose stools are an indication that something is wrong with the cat. It could be something like a parasite or illness or it could even be a food allergy. One of my sphynx boys has a sensitive stomach, and has to be on a very strict, grain-free or raw diet or else he will have loose stools. I urge you to be cautious of a breeder who is telling you this is normal.

Best of luck in your search for a sphynx kitten! I have four sphynx cats and can't imagine my life without them!
