earbud killer

How do I get Eyvan to leave my earbuds alone? I use my mp3 at night to block out other sounds so I can sleep but he has some kind of weird passion for them and will try to get them every time opportunity presents itself.

I have gotten him to stop doing other things by gently tapping him on the nose with an open hand. He usually stops after a couple of times and that's that, but with the earbuds he will simply sit down and wait for me to become distracted or dose off and then try to swipe them right out of my ears or, as has happened twice now, bite through the cord and render them useless.

The night before last he sat by the bed purring and I knew he was waiting for me to fall asleep. Sure enough, as soon as my eyes were closed he popped up and tried to swipe them. When I opened my eyes he sat back down with his eyes closed and a cat grin on purring. Out of frustration and desperation (and the fact that I was sick and over tired so please don't stone me) I picked up the Kleenex box and popped him on the head when he went for them the next time. The only thing he did was sit back down and purr!!!

We have a cat that loves to chew anything like that, and all head phones, ear buds, blue tooth headsets, most cords of a certain type all have to be put away and out of reach.

Since you're able to fall asleep with ear buds in your ears.... what about hat that snugs the head but pulls down over the ears?

I have the same problem. My earbuds have cat-tooth-shaped holes in them.
'Somebody' also chewed the insulation off the cord for my cell phone charger.
I was thinking of trying Bitter Apple but the last time I tried it with a previous cat I found out that she liked the taste!

I've slept with a hoody on a few times which worked not too bad for the most part. The one night, however, he caught sight of the cord poking out by my chin and got me with a claw when he reached out with lightning speed to scoop it. Perhaps I'll have to stick with that for a while though and just risk the potential injuries.

Not surprised to hear about the bitter apple, Nekochan, I've heard many stories of products guaranteed to work and turn out to be a fail. I was told by a trainer that no puppies would ever chew anything with Vicks Vapo Rub on it, low and behold if mine isn't crazy for the stuff! Even now years later if I put it on when I have a cold she'll half tackle me to lick it off!
