You know in a book I read once it said that some big percentage of men when blindfolded, confused, and taken into a room with no windows will know what direction they're facing.

Whereas the women had a much smaller success rate.

Sorry...this just reminded me of that and how much cody thinks it's funny that I never know what direction I'm going in, even though I grew up here.

I would suspect that is true, because women tend to be more abstractly organized than men.

Just a theory, mind you!

What I did was tell Carolinalima the wrong branch of the Y to take, but she saw the message and made it down here just fine.

Check out the pictures; she made a lot of kitty friends today!

Really? I'd have thought the opposite was true! I always know which direction I'm going. Gary never has to ask for directions - because I get us there.

And Steve, being the manly man he is and refuses to ask for directions, gets horrible turned around and only thru shear luck lands in the right place at the end. He has a knack of making a right turn and landing in front of the building.

Supposedly men use north, south, east and west to orient themselves and find places, while women remember landmarks better. I've found this to be true in many instances..

I would agree with that from personal experience.

This is exactly how I am, whereas Cody insists that he can see a map in his head.

I do both. I can see a "map" in my head and landmarks. I am very good at getting from A to B and back.
I think this is a trait inherited from my Dad who was great at this. I also remember details and getting around in a place I haven't been in a while.

My mom, on the other hand, gets lost going around the corner..
My 19 year old niece is the same way!

....I remember my grandparents coming to stay with us while my parents went on vacation. They flew in from PA - we lived in IL. My grandfather was driving us home after dropping off my parents. After passing signs to exit for the airport for a third time, I started crying and freaking out. I thought we were never going to get home. My grandma said "Don't worry, sweetheart - we're not lost! We're just temporarily misplaced."
I was never afraid of getting "lost" after that. Of course - if push comes to shove, I'm willing to ask for directions. Gary, on the other hand, isn't. Good thing they have cellphones and mapquest now.

I am absolutely terrible with directions! I know when looking at a map what is N, S, E and W, but when it comes to equating that to real life, I haven't a clue.

We have a corner downtown that is pretty much due N and S. If I ever have to provide a direction, I have to imagine myself physically standing in front of one of the buildings in order to figure out the direction.

It doesn't help that I'm dyslexic and often get my left and right confused

I must be one of the lucky ladies, because Randall (my s/o) never seems to get lost -- even in Houston. I'd go absolutely nuts if I had to find my way around in that city -- especially driving at 90 miles or more an hour.

I've been "lost" ever since moving here. I can't seem to get my bearing no matter what.
But I can find my way around anywhere in Wisconsin. Probably because I was born & raised there.

Yeah - Gary's dyslexic. Because we're almost always together, when giving directions, I don't say "left or right," I just tell him which lane to get in and point which direction to go.

I'm with you! I'm terrible at directions. If someone asks me I either look like a cheerleader or someone flagging in a plane. Every turn they have to take, I have to get my body straight to let them know if it is left or right.

Don't even give me a compass...I will try to follow the arrow. But, I do recognize landmarks ("honey, didn't we pass this 3 times already?" "yeah....what's your point???")
