OK - not the greatest photos, but the past week or two the birds have just been so busy at the feeder, I tried to catch a few of them. They're kinda dark because the flash just washed everything out. (I'm not a photographer!)

A Downy Woodpecker:

One of the ever-present Chickadees:

A Tufted Titmouse:

A Nuthatch (sorry, you can't see his blue - I'm working on it LOL):

Since the cold - and especially since the snow - it is has been so crazy active, the kitties are loving it! :lolk3:

I love birds! Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures!
I saw a lone seagull out on the highway today, diving down and picking at something in the road. He was so pretty.

There are a lot of Quail and Turkey around here (not bird feeder visitors
) - have to remember to have the camera ready while driving.

Last week we actually had to stop traffic to let a GORGEOUS male pheasant cross the road!

Over the river and through the woods...
Great pics! I really want to get a bird feeder out here, both for the bird's and the cat's enjoyment. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Strangest thing I ever saw was driving home from work one time....had to stop to let a PEACOCK walk across the road! This is in Maryland! Turns out, someone nearby had a farm with peacocks and this one got out. I thought I was seeing things!

I have feeders for the cats, too.
I was awakened this morning with Ari chattering at the ones at my window.

His personal fave is the mourning dove.

Droll Yankees are more expensive - but they STICK to the windows - even with Squirrels in the feeders!

Droll Yankee feeders - all types - are the best.

Here, we have chestnut-backed chickadees and plain titmice. Our Anna's hummingbirds are, I think, the only hummingbirds here that do not migrate in the winter.

Butzie does prefer the ground feeders, unfortunately. She wisely stays away from the Scrub Jays and Stellar's Jays. We don't have Blue Jays here.

We have very pretty CA Quails. As for the turkeys, they have adopted so well to where I live that they are driving people crazy (not me!). You can't shoot anything here, which really made my brother, who hunts and lives in CT, cry when I told him about the 8-point buck that lives on our property!

Great pictures, Laurie!

All Jays are just mean birds - we've lived East Coast and West Coast, and they definitely all share that trait! And yeah... we didn't put bird feeders out when we were feeding the ferals out back. They birds are so messy they drop food everywhere, and it attracts all kinds of ground feeders.

We had put up pole feeders - but there are too many bears around here, and with all the other food available to them you wouldn't think they'd want to bother going through the hassle to get at bird seed in a container - but they do.
We went through two broken cast iron poles and about four hanging bird feeders before we gave up on that. So far (knock wood) they haven't bothered the ones sticking to the windows.
But we absolutely cannot put out suet.

The latest visitor - a young

Male Red Bellied Woodpecker

He was difficult to catch - sorry it's through the screen.

But none of the other birds come to eat when he's here - he's about 3x their size!

Love the pics! I just took another helping of seed out for the birds; they're attacking it like mad today. It's very cold and snowing and blowing, which means they'll probably get at least 2 more helpings today.
There are several pairs of cardinals feeding at the moment; they look so pretty against the snow.
I do put suet out for the woodpeckers. We are inundated with starlings (possibly the meanest birds on earth) and grackles, who will eat a suet cake in less than a day. I finally bought a different feeder that the grackles can't get into, the openings are too small. Unfortunately, that means the bigger woodpeckers can't get at the suet, either. Makes me feel bad.

Have had some male goldfinches. I hate when they lose their mating plumage. I also had my screeching blue jays. I set some seed out seperate for them.

If anything, I have had few sparrows at the current feeders compare to the old place.
