Most of you know I work for Toys R Us. As you might guess, this is our "silly season." The warehouse is essentially working around the clock, and the drivers are working up to their maximum allowable hours, taking a 34-hour break, and doing it again.

I got home about 10 last night. The bid I was assigned to had a load going to Houston only 2 hours later, but I was out of hours, so some other driver had to take it. Then I had a load tonight that needed to be covered, but they were short on drivers. They said I might have to do it; if so, it would mean I would have to take a day off in the middle of the week. They called about midnight last night to let me know it's covered.

So Monday night, I'm going to The Woodlands (Houston) and Arlington. Tuesday night I'm going to Katy (SW Houston). And Wednesday night I'm going to Houston again. I should be done Thursday morning, and off for a well-earned rest until next Monday.

You know, it's crazy but I love it. I love the Christmas season, no matter how much I dislike some of the basics around the holiday.

I gotta get out my Santa hat, too. I always wear it full time for the last week of the season.

The drivers (car) are crazy around here at this time of year! They will cut you off even if you are wearing that Santa hat. Safe driving!

What would be new about that? I never cease to be amazed at how brave somebody in a 3,000 lb car can be around an 80,000 lb truck.

However, it comes with the season. At least one of our drivers got fired last year for manually expressing his displeasure toward a driver in the parking lot of one of our stores. I haven't had a problem, other than people coming up and asking if the popular toys of the season are on the trailer I'm delivering. I tell them I have no way of knowing. My bill of lading isn't itemized; all it says is, "1 trailer load of toys."
