Thinking of getting a older Sphynx if the one I want does not work out

I am hoping I can still get the sphynx I posted about last week.
I hope Cleos breeder still thinks I want him.
I do not care about the sex.
If he does not work out maybe I should get a sphynx that has already been shown.

I would be careful getting an older cat, depending on how old of course. Kittens fit in much better.

Have you spoken or emailed with the breeder, or talked about putting down a deposit?

Do I remember correctly that you were planning to start breeding sphynxes at some point? If that's the case, maybe you could start looking for a cat with breeding rights so your neuter-number doesn't get overwhelming? I don't know how soon sphynxes mature/have to be bred, but you would get at least a year(?) or more time to keep showing. I think Wrinkles is adorable!

Thanks,
I have not wrote the breeder and we never did talk abou a deposit.
We did talk about the price though.
I might breed in the future.
Everyone wants me to get a whole cat to show but the good breeders will not sell me one right now.
I have a lot t learn.

Jacky, my advice is to keep reading, studying, and looking at pictures of the top winning Sphynx in all associations so you get a better idea of just what you want in a Sphynx (breeding and/or showing).

You need to learn what is good and bad about the breed examples and have that "picture" in your mind. I know some times it takes awhile to really feel you "know" your breed inside and out.

What I like doing (not only with Oci's, but with a lot of breeds) is to just sit and watch the judging (showing one cat helps) and see if you can pick out which cat(s) the judges will pick for best and 2nd best of breed. Most times I'll pick the right ones - may be reversed but in general can pick out #1 and #2 almost every time.

This past show I went to, the Sphynx that ruled the competition had Devon Rex faces. I was pretty sure that Sphynx weren't supposed to look like Devons, but they preferred them to ours. They did final Monty, but he still needs to grow in his jowls a bit more.

I know that they wanted a more modified wedge to the face, not overly triangular--that's what they explained to us after the judging.

IMO the Sphynx kinda remind me of both the Devon and the Cornish Rexes - sorta a cross of the two types.

I was benched next to a Oci breeder.
He wa showing me his Oci's.
They like Cleo and she does not have the rex look.
Sphyx with Devon Rex are allowed in Tica but not CFA.
The only allowable outcross breeds in the CFA are now the American Shorthair and Domestic Shorthair.
I do knowwhat the judges prefer.
One judge said she liked Wrinkles toes.
They do want the wedge.
I pretty me get it right when I watch them judge the sphynx.
Most of the time it is te same cats.

Would you be better off just waiting then, and showing the cats you have now? So your numbers don't keep going up with neuters.

I plan on getting a alter but someone said they might let me show their whole cat for them.
My name would be on the paper as a owner and the cat would never be here.
It is not a sphynx though.

Entires can't be shown as often as neuters, and if it's a different breed what would be the point?

Perhaps slow down a little, think about what you really want to do. You've only had Cleo for a year, getting a 3rd kitten plus the others you already own will impact any breeding plans.

Entires can be moody, and neuters don't always get along with them especially when they are in heat. Having 7 neuters plus breeding cats is a lot.

But maybe you've already thought of that.

I have thought about everything.
Coco will not be around much longer which I hate.
She was given 5 months to live last Jan and is 17.10 years old now.
I know how cats can act when they are in heat.
I will get a alter and show for at least 2 years.

I think it's a very good thing you have two different 'type' sphynxes. If you keep showing them both, you'll learn easier what is preferred and what is not. I don't think you should stop showing Wrinkles even if you get a third alter to show. It will be good 'practice' to show them all and you get to compare them to each other. I've noticed that it's easiest to 'judge' a cat when you get to handle it yourself so you can feel the bone structure and details, but it might be a different case with sphynxes as they don't have all that fur hiding what's underneath.

I will not stop showing Wrinkles.
Her first adult show will be in March.
So far they prefer Cleo.
he always gets very good comments about her eyes, dace shape and alot of other things.
Wrinkles does not get many comments at all.
Cleo is not being shown right now because she has been mean to the judges.
She has finaled in every show she has been in except the one time I showed her as a kitten.
She was not bought as show quality either.
Wrinkles has been in 3 shows now but has not made a final.

Do you have any Fifé-style shows there? One judge judges your cat and gives you lots of details about him/her and even writes a small note about his opinion of the cat. They only judge one cat at a time so you get unique time with the judge. This would be good for Wrinkles, so you would know what is her good and bad qualities.
I'll be attending to my first ever TICA show next year with Kuura (BSH), but I'll have to visit one show without a cat before that as I have no ideas what goes on in shows with rings.

Good luck for your sphynx-army! And I saw the new show pics of Wrinkles, her face is adorable, love that color on her!

Thanks,
We do not have Fif'e type shows here.
I had never been to a TICA show before I showed Cleo there.
I had only been to CFA shows an I had never even seen the judging before I started showing.
I can help you with TICA.
Kathryn asked me to teach a lady how to show at the last TICA how.
It was her first show.
How many rings is your TICA show.
The judges say what they like at our shows but you nver hear the negative comments.

They usually have 6 rings. I'm not sure yet what is going to be my closest show so not sure yet how many rings will be on the one I'll be entering Kuura on. We are used to going to large shows with 500-700 cats in them.

The Tica shows here are 6 ring shows with a 225 cat limit most of the time.
I have never been to a big show like that but I will be going to the tICA Annual this year.
I think it is 500 cats.

US judges seem to only say the good points. Over here they say good and bad, so you get a good evaluation of the cat. I don't see the point in only hearing positives, you can't improve if they don't say what's wrong.

Amanda, that's what a lot of us liked about the Aussie and UK judges - they would point out the good and bad about your cat while judges. Most helpful.

I did post a comment about the idea of our ACFA judges maybe considering to do some of the same when judging.
