I figured since I posted in this forum about Finnegan's URI and eye infection before that I should update here as well. But, before y'all get worried, Finn is doing GREAT
!

I took Finnegan back to the vet this past Wednesday for a check-up and his second round of kitten vaccinations. When I first took Finn in, he was 1.9 pounds. His second vet visit found him at 2.1 pounds and this last visit he had grown to 2.8 pounds! So, he's growing well (he should be -- he's such a little piggy!) and exceeding everyone's expectations. He has recovered from his upper respiratory infection and his eyes are now completely clear with no discharge. He received his FVRCP vaccine, was dewormed again, and was pronounced as healthy as can be! Considering all he's been through, this is just amazing to me and I couldn't be happier
!

The only thing that I was less than enthused with the vet about was that she wanted me to give him the FeLV vaccine at this appointment. All of my cats are FeLV/FIV negative and are strictly indoor kitties. I've read countless negative reports about the vaccine and the fact that it has a heightened risk for sarcoma (above and beyond the standard vaccines), I am not willing to give the vaccine to my kitten or other cats. But, in the vet's defense, she did give me info on the pros and cons of the vaccine and listened to and accepted my reasoning for not giving the shot to Finn.

Since he's only somewhere between 10 and 12 weeks old and still small, we haven't set a date for him to be neutered. My goal is to have his neuter done by spring and my vet agrees that that is a very reasonable time-frame. He is going back in for another appointment in early January and, depending on his weight, we may set a date then. But, for now, it's not something that needs to be decided immediately.

The vet said that I could have started introductions as soon as his URI symptoms dissipated, but I wasn't completely sure I wanted to risk anything and so I held off. But, now that he's been in my home 3 weeks today, has recovered from the URI and eye infection, and has been tested negative for FeLV/FIV, I feel as though I can safely intro him to my other kitties. So, I'm going to start the introductions this weekend and see how things go. I'm hoping to have them fully integrated by the start of the new year, but, honestly, I think it will go off without a hitch and they should be able to cohabitat by Christmas. My resident cats are all easy-going and they accepted Emory, when I adopted her, very quickly. And, with an even younger kitten, I truly believe they'll take to him almost immediately. But, nonetheless, I'll be taking the intros slow so as to ensure that everyone is safe and stress-free as possible.

I'm so grateful for my little guy. He's brought so much happiness and joy to me this holiday season and I am honored to have him in my life. He's a miracle kitten, for sure, and I adore him
. And, it's so amazing to see the adoration, love, and trust he has for me in his eyes when he looks up at me
. And it's so much fun to have a kitten in the house again -- I've missed those kitten crazies! He truly has made my family (both furred and otherwise) whole and I wouldn't trade him for the world
.

I'll continue to update on baby Finnegan's progress here (as well as everywhere else
). Which reminds me...I need to post some photos of my little dude...

So glad Finn's doing better and is as healthy as a horse (or kitten)!! You're doing a great job with him. We'd love to see new pics of him, too!
