Nibbles is my 10 year old rabbit, I got her 4 years ago, my friendtold me her neighbour had a rabbit and she never cleaned it out, just fed and watered it, so I went round and offered to take her in. What a poor state she was in, she hadn't had her hutch cleaned for 2 years, the lady had gotten her off her friend who didn't want her after having her 4 years as she had a baby and deemed her too much trouble, she was originally an indoor rabbit! The lady told me she was put into a pressure situation to have her. Why on earth she didn't ring the RSPCA is beyond me, instead she had to suffer.
I took her to the vets and had her health checked, remarkably she was in good condition and after reporting the previous owner to the RSPCA and some tlc Nibbles thrived. She has always been bad tempered and sometimes aggressive towards human contact which is completely understandable. She has really looked after the baby bunnies and really protected them.
I noticed a few days ago that she had started to lose weight, she is still, I cleaned them out earlier and she is just skin and bones so I have taken her to the vets this afternoon her to the vet. My vet just said its old age and really doesn't think she has long left, maybe days, he offered to euthanise her, I asked him if she is in pain but he said she is showing no signs of pain or being uncomfortable so I have decided to let nature take its course. Its biterly cold here so the hutch has been covered up and they have extra hay and straw. I would bring her inside but she loves the other rabbits and I would like her to spend her final time with her friends.
I am so upset but glad that the last 4 years have been good ones, she wouldn't have lived this long if she was still with her previous owner. I am just dreading when the time comes, I am checking her every hour. x

Aww, Ruth I'm sorry.
Like you said though she at least had the last and best years of her life with you, and there's nothing you can do about old age.

Just checked on her, she was eating so a good sign, if I think in any way day or night that she is suffering I shall be taking her to the vets. December has been an awful month for me.x

So sorry to hear about Nibbles. I too have lost bunnies. It is a sad time. You have such a good heart to take such good care of her.

God bless you and Nibbles.

Well, she's still here this morning, her breathing is very laboured though but she has had a drink and a little bit to eat, she looks happy enough and it was if the smiled at me when I gave her a fuss. I hope she hangs in there for a bit really but on the other hand I don't want her to suffer, she doesn't look in any way uncomfortable, the other rabbits were all sat round her its as if they know she hasn't got long left. I know 10 years is an excellent age for a bunny and especially for one that has been through such a lot. Its sad that she isn't attacking me anymore when I put my hand in the hutch, thats my nib's
she is normally a very grumpy bunny, she is being so friendly at the moment but its nice that I can give her love. x

oh what a shame about Nibbles, but what a good life she has had with you for the last 4 years to love and take care of her, I hope she passes peacefully in her sleep, with no pain.
