Just wondering. i was talking with my wife and she said one of the guys she works with loves cats.
She said he said that his wife did not like cats at all and did not want one in the house.
so, he decided he wanted a cat, he went down to the local animal shelter, picked out a tom cat and brought him home.
his wife still does not like the cat but he said it was HIS cat and he was keeping it and in the house.
he said the cat loves him, sleeps with them (on his side of the bed), greets him when he comes home.
he said his wife asked him "why do you pay attention first to the cat when you come home"?
he simply stated "the cat is glad to see me".
what can i say, i fell in love with our little furball when we brought her in the house.
she was always so glad to see me in the mornings, she would just purr and purr and meow when i got up in the mornings.
she was and still is a daddy's girl.

i never would have thought i would have turned into a cat lover but thanks to my wife, i really do love cats.
they are such cool critters.

I consider my DH to be a "cat whisperer". He loves cats. And they love him. They follow him like he's the Pied Piper. He doesn't post on this site, though.

As a single woman who has always loved cats, I feel that strong self assured men love cats. Men I know who can't stand them, hate that they are not blindly devoted.

We don't have a whole lot of male volunteers at our shelter but we do have a few. One of them has 9 cats between him & his wife. It's funny because somewhere he bought something that said every life needs 9 cats. At that time, he didn't have 9, but has since fallen in love with several additional cats & does have 9.

We do comprise a small portion of TCS members but we are here. I found this site 3 1/2 years ago and have never joined Facebook, Twitter or any of the other forums around. I have always found the info I needed right here (even non-cat issues). I wish you could see my beautiful Persi with his head draped around the laptop that I am using right now. He is like a permanent fixture there when I am on the computer. I certainly am not ashamed to admit to ANYBODY that I am a man cat lover. Big time.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Gary used to hate cats. Here's his story: http://www.savesamoa.org/html/booger.html He is a member here - shelly's dad - but posts very rarely. He's not really a forums kind of person.

When we rescued our first indoor-only feral, he called all his cat-loving friends to apologize for hating cats. He's trapped.... countless kitties to TNR them. We've fostered... about 8 or 10 kitties before our 4th feral adoption developed an autoimmune disease and we had to stop fostering. We funded the start-up of a no-kill shelter.... and have helped co-ordinate rescues around the country.

We now live with seven kitties, all feral rescues.

....and check out my signature.

My boyfriend loves all animals, but he has a real love for cats. He is now living back with his parents for a bit, and they have a number of outside-only cats. He has rigged up a window access into his room, and the cats come and go.. and they know that's the only place where they can come in.

While men are in the minority on this site, I don't think their numbers here reflect the reality out there in the world. My DH, stepson, and many of our male friends are cat people. But many of them are not "forums people". One is a particular cat magnet, and swears there are markers on his property, visible only to cats, advertising free food and lodging. I have no idea what the current count is.

I have always insisted that men can be found at forums devoted to sports, cars, and gaming, with a cat nearby.

There's several sites and image boards where I'm quite certain that women are the minority on (like 4chan) due to the nature of those sites. These are responsible for perpetuating things like lolcats, icanhazcheeseburger, and Caterday - the common jokes suggest men are mostly responsible.
So while the population is low here, it's flipped around elsewhere.

My DH doesn't post here, but he is the reason why we have so many cats.
His parents didn't allow indoor pets and he really didn't have pets as a child (there were farm animals). I think this is how he's making up for it.
His dad doesn't approve but doesn't say anything.

My husband is the same way! I believe that if the house was on fire, he would rescue our cats first and I would be an after-thought. We only have 2 cats, but the youngest is truly his baby and his shadow!

my dad hates cats - i was not ever mean to them but did not care for cats until i met my wife.
after we got married i said "we will never have a cat and not one inside either"
man, did i ever have to eat those words. we got our first cat a few years after we were married. a little stray of course came to the house and she started feeding her. she stayed and i fell in love with that cat, she was so loving and good natured and she loved me too.
she was an outside cat and she got hit and killed by a car.
we got an inside cat, Penelope, and she lived to be 18 1/2 years old. she was my wife's cat, penelope just tolerated me.
but we got a new kitten last year, Delilha, a turkish van and she is daddy's girl. she took up with me for some reason and follows me around the house every step i take.
i love that cat and dad knows we are cat people, but he does not say anything.
when my mom came to visit this spring, mom is not too crazy about cats, she is really afraid of them, delilha followed her everywhere she went and mom really likes her. delilha does not take up with other people, so it surprised us that she likes mom.
mom kept saying what a beautiful cat she was, maybe delilha understood mom was bragging on her.

Maybe Delilha knew she had to make friends with your mother to sort of change her mind?

My dad didn't hate cats.. but he did and still does view them as "just cats". At least he's not doing anything harmful to them anymore..

my dad does not do anything harmful to them anymore, but i think he used to years ago.
dad grew up thinking that animals were not supposed to live in the house with humans and i was like that for a long time, but my wife changed my mind on that.
i am glad, i love cats, they are just really great pets and they add so much to your life.
experts say that people who have pets live longer, i believe that because pets who love you, it just adds so much to your life.
cats are truly one of God's little fury critters that He gave to us to love and take care of.

I currently have a kitten as a house guest that belongs to a male neighbor.
He loves her to pieces and she's his first cat.

He's a little upset that she still seems a bit mad at him for disrupting her life and foisting her on strangers.
I keep telling him she'll get over it and be herself again, its just that cats do not like their routines changed.

I'm sorry you had a dad that did stuff like that, too. Even if you didn't use to love cats it had to make you uncomfortable.

I still vividly remember bringing home a sick kitten I found (likely just calicivirus or herpes due to the symptoms and that she wasn't that sick). He declared it distemper and said he wasn't going to pay for a cat to go to the vet.
I know exactly what he did to the kitten, I won't share it on here. When I found out the next morning I threw a brick at his truck - hit the driver side door when I was actually aiming at the window. I was only 5 and got into serious trouble for that.

There are only a handful of guys on here, but I'm one of them. I have to say, I'm actually surprised that cats aren't popular with more men.

Dogs are needy clingy animals that constantly need praise and reassurance. Being pack animals, it's in their nature to crave acceptance.

Cats are much more independant and self confident.

One would think that would appeal more to our gender, I know it does for me.
