We aren't able to decide when it's time to let them go & when it isn't for you - that's something you should talk to your vet about, they can guide you.

At age 18, your darling boy may very well be getting ready to leave you. It is sometimes very difficult to determine if it is truly "time" and whether you should let nature handle it or help your little friend make a peaceful passage.

Only you will know what the situation is. Let your kitty guide you.

I am sorry you are going through this right now. I wish you both well.

the same thing happened to our beloved Penelope last year, she was almost 18 1/2 years old.
she would not eat, her kidneys failed, she was so healthy until that happened. she had never been sick a day in her long life.
we took her to the vet, there was nothing they could do for her.
it was either watch her suffer and die or end it peacefully.
we decided to go with having her put to sleep.
but that is a decision you and your vet will have to make.
18 years is a long long time for a cat, about 126 years in human life, so your cat has had a long long life and a good one i am sure.
but again, it is your decision, a painful one, i know but talk to your vet and you decide what you think is best.

Sorry to hear about the situation, it's a struggle every pet owner goes through at some point. You have probably given Philly a wonderful, safe, healthy life, so please don't feel guilty if you decide on euthanasia. It is a courageous act, because it will bring you great pain and sadness but will be an end of suffering for Philly. I have seen my cat through diabetes where she needed two shots a day, now she is fine without shots and I take her every year for a senior panel (bloodwork) and her organs are showing mild signs of failing but there is no cure for it. She's about 17 years old. I know I have always done my very best to keep her safe, well-nourished and happy. But I know one day I'll be exactly in your position and have to make the same hard decision.

I am so sorry for you and Philly - I also agree about consulting with your vet, and remembering your decision will be based from love, no matter how it hurts you - you're putting his well-being and happiness above your own.

, and prayers for you both.

It is your choice.
I also have a old cat and know I will have to make that choice also.
She has CRF,High bp and other problems.
She is 17.10 years old.
I have had to have a few cats pts before and it is very hard to do.
Good Luck to you with whatever you decide to do.

What a difficult decision you have ahead of you and my heart goes out to you.

Philly has enjoyed a long life and had a loving home. Do not let him suffer. Discuss this with your vet to make the most humane decision.
