I cant afford to buy presents for my folks, so I was thinking of making cookies. With the roach problem, I can't really let cookies cool. the bugs would be on them like, well, roaches on a cookie. "Is that a raisin?"
Would anyone be offended by store bought candy, It is all I can manage.

That is ok honey...
But... Is the roach problem this bad? this has been going on for a long time - how come it hasn't been solved yet?

Hopefully your folks will understand that things are a bit tough right now.
Whenever I have to cool food I have this metal dome cover that keeps the cats off. I wonder if you could use something like that for the roaches? You would probably have to wrap a tea towel around the bottom still.

Candy is a good gift I'm sure folks will understand as long as you get the things they like specifically for them.

Maybe you could put the cookies in the refridgerator to cool?

Yum!! I think that you should go with the candy and put them in handmade gift baskets.
Just to add that "personal touch" that makes gifts special.

Who does not like candy? I like the idea of putting it in a hand made gift basket, that will make it more personal for sure.

I agree...and you can probably pick up baskets at goodwill for cheap. Another idea is to see if you can find any candy molds (I have some but they are all Easter) and melt your own chocolate and make it that way. From what I remember you put them in the fridge to cool so that would take away any roach danger. Also, maybe no bake cookies?

I don't know ANYONE who doesn't love homemade treats!!

Some advice....don't put chocolate stocking stuffers in over the fire place......years ago I made this mistake and what was once a bag of Hershey's Kisses became a block of molten mess

Everyone loves candy!!!
(Just make sure nobody you're buying for has special nutritional requirements/allergies)

Do you have a Dollar Tree near you? If not, Target has a little $1 section! Dollar Tree has some cute baskets this time of year and yummy candy/etc! It wouldn't cost much to make a cute little basket and fill it with some tinsel/etc and put a bow on it.
It's the thought that counts, not the price tag.
