Need good vibes for one of my parents’ cats, Ray-Ray. We noticed about two weeks ago that he was getting a waistline. (very broad shoulders but his waist line was wasting away) the day of the vet appointment he started vomiting what looked like stomach acid, two or three times. Mom rushed him in. The vet did some blood work and said that he has a diminished kidney function in his left kidney and he is anemic. He’s been on the meds since. We have not heard back from the vet who said it could be genetic, or something he has had for a long time that was never noticed, or that there could be another reason for it all together, We also have his brothers from the same litter so I’m afraid that if it is genetic All of them could have “it”; what ever “it” is. I’m very frustrated with the lack of concern the vet seems to have about it, as he hasn’t called back with any of the test workups, and we have called several times. Its only been a little over 2 months since we lost Casper, our hearts are still breaking over his crossing, and we are just so scared that poor Ray -Ray may have something serious. Please pray for him. we need lots of good

Any advice you can give would be helpful. We spent alot of money (although money is not the issue) with the first round of tests, the "cat specialist" is only in the office one day a week so we thought that might be some of the reason we hadn't heard back, although we called again Thursday and were just told to keep him on the meds. I don't remember the name of the medication he was given one dose every day for ten days and now he gets one dose every other day. he seems to be getting ore pink in his nose and paws, but his waist is not coming back, also he drinks, ALOT. I would really like to give my mother piece of mind if nothing else. She is checking on a new vet for him now since we haven;t heard back from the "Cat Specialist". It seems like the business' here have a problem with calling people back, as we have had this problem alot with various things, including non-vet issues, we never had this problem back in Indy....

I will keep Ray Ray in my thoughts and prayers. What is wrong with vets lately?

Maybe our new member, Dr. Marie, could shed some light on what seems to be a diminishing quality of care.

Good luck, and please keep us posted.

Cats with kidney problems do drink alot of water.
That is one of the signs.
When you get the numbers post them.
There are so many treatments you can do.

Mom said the medication he is on is Prednisone, and that the vet originally told her that ray could be operating on what amounts to half of a kidney. He doesnt seem to be in any pain, and he is less tired than before, but that could just be the steroid. Still no word from the "cat Specialist" on his numbers...

We got the call from the vet on Monday, Ray-Ray has Leukemia. Its been very somber at the house as we watch him decline, Tomorrow the ultimate choice will be and and Ray will Cross to the Bridge. My heart is heavy as I think of all we have lost this year. I will miss his deep love, his loud meow in the depth of the night. Mr. Lipps and OJ have been keeping vigil for days, we know its time. My only hope is that he finds Casper and all the others of his colony that have past and that we don't wait too long and make him suffer any more. He is an amazing animal, and has given the best fight he can, this battle was just too much.

So sorry about Ray Ray. He was such a good friend to you. I am sure all his friends will be waiting to touch noses and give head bumps.

May he pass in peace.

" another cat? Perhaps. For love there is also a season; Its seeds must be resown. But a family cat is not replaceable like a worn out coat or a set of tires. Each new Kitten becomes its own cat, and none is repeated. I am four cats old, measuring out my life in friends that have succeeded but not replaced one another. ~Irving Townsend

In reality I am at least twenty cats old, the cost of taking in abandoned, stray and unwanted animals is that we lose them, long before we are ready to let go. I know we are giving him the ultimate gift, I just wish it didn't hurt so much. The others will go in for leukemia testing ASAP, although it is unlikely that any of them have contracted it from him, I have to be sure. My heart is so sad today... I feel so guilty for feeling our indoor group was safe. Mom had them ALL tested before the move to VT, they ALL tested negative. How did this happen?!?! I'm so scared for the others. The vet never even mentioned that we should isolate him, or that what he had was anything more than anemia until we harassed him and got answers. Does he not realize that puts them all at risk!? I could lose everyone...

we lost our beloved Ray-Ray, our sweet lovable Bartokamus; December 28th 2009. He made it through Christmas but was just so weak, we couldn't allow him to suffer anymore just on the hope that he would feel better at "some point" So we did the only humane thing we could and we called the vet. Mom and I were with him till the end, Dad couldn't even be in the house... The vet agreed we did the right thing. His ashes will be back this week.

Rest sweetly my dear Ray. Run and play and give Casper heck, be whole and healthy again, and know that we will never forget you, stop loving or missing you, Your brothers look for you endlessly. I know I heard you in the night, cry to me that you are better now, but how we long to hold you, to have you walk over us as we sleep, to hear your meow only in our dreams now breaks our hearts...
Good-bye my dear friend, constant companion and champion.
