In BC we get:

major forest fires
major earthquakes
major flooding
hail
landslides and snow avalanches
blizzards
tsunamis and storm surges

We get wicked pacific storms but no tornadoes.

When I lived in tornado alley, though, I stayed alert and on top of the weather! My friends called me "weather girl."
I should have been a storm chaser!

My son & s/o tell me I'm "obsessed" with weather, cuz I'm always watching the weather channel for current updates. I don't think I'm necessarily obsessed, but I do like to be informed.

In Texas, you can have ANYTHING in the wintertime.

I like following weather stories, too.

I'm not worried about nighttime tornadoes, because tornadoes aren't common where I live. I used to live in the midwest, though, and my town had sirens that went off during a tornado warning, day or night. They were loud enough to wake me, and did on more than occasion. I've never actually been through a tornado, though - just lots of warnings.

Around here tornados are more of a summer thing. I guess it could happen in the winter, but when it's already cold I don't think it's very likely to occur.

Night time tornados, in winter. There is a CW song in there somewehere.

Being just off the tornado belt, and living through 2 of them , I am more worried about my icy sidewalk at this time of year,
Tornado would take one look and say "Oh hell no"

We get a lot of tornados here in Tennessee. The worst one I've ever survived was when I was visiting my cousin in Oklahoma though. It literally wiped out the city near her to an oblivion (Moore, Oklahoma). That was terrifying. Since then, I don't take tornados lightly. I have a game plan and practice a couple of times a year to make sure that I am always prepared. My family is the same way as me. Better to be safe and have a plan, than to be sorry.

I have a weather radio, leashes and cat carriers in easy reach and can have everything (and every furbaby) moved where we need to be in case of a tornado in a matter of minutes. (I practice.) I also keep flashlights, non-perishables, water, first aid kit & meds, batters, copies of important documents, including pet vaccinations (in a safe folder). We have a sticker on our window with a list of our pets inside, and all of my furbabies are microchipped and properly wear proper id in the event they get seperated from me.

As far as when I'm on the road, the safest place to stop imo if I have time and there is a tornado warning out is the grocery store. I used to work at one and anytime we had a tornado warning, we'd gather everyone into the produce coolers (and turn off the cooler temp.) It's steel enforced like crazy and very protective. So best place to stop if you have time during a tornado warning, is in a grocery store so you can get in the cooler.
