I grew up in Denver, and anyone who knows about them knows they have had a fantastic Christmas light display on the Civic Center downtown for many years. It was already an established tradition by 1955. There were rumored to be 1,000,000 lights on the building.
In the 70's, it was cut back due to energy costs, but it's still a big thing.

By the way, some think that outdoor Christmas lights were invented in Denver in 1914.
