How to trim a cat's claws

Here's a video of how I do it with Punkin. Kneel down, get him between my knees to hold him, and trim the claws. This is actually easier than having Dottie hold him while I try to trim the claws.

Wow! So simple! That reminds me of how on informercials or 'as seen on TV' product commercials, people use the product with such ease, you know it's gotta be fake. But what a well-behaved kitty!

I do it that way or I sit on a chair and hold Genever, sometimes that works better. I agree it's a lot easier to both hold and clip than to have someone else hold while I clip. Same with Soft Paws. It's easier when I have control.

I know he looks well-behaved (and he really is, usually) but he HATES having his claws clipped. This method keeps him from backing away from me.

He's strong enough that I worry about hurting his paws trying to control them when Dottie holds him.

Fortunately, he's not a biter.

You make it look so easy. You can come clip Kiki's claws anytime.

I've done that before with a few cats that were large and pretty uncooperative with me. Question - that's fine for the front - how do you trim the back ones?

When I do them (rarely), I have Dottie hold him. And no, he doesn't like that any better.

That looks like a guillotine like clipper. When I use mine it splits the nails. I then tried a human nail clipper and the same thing you can see cracks in his claws. I just stopped trimmer all together as I think that is how he got one nail in the red caught and it never grew back. Its impossible for me to clip anyway but from the side of cat so maybe its the angle.

I plop Pete on his rear on my lap to cut his nails - he lets me get through 2-3 paws before he fights back, at which time I typically get my b/f to hold him still. Kylie, on the other hand, wants nothing to do with the nail clipper so I have to sneak a paw (or two, if I'm lucky!) in while she's asleep.

We have two pairs of these clippers that we bought from Wal Mart years ago - best nail clippers I've ever used! No splitting and very sturdy.

I can trim all my cats nails but Zoey. She goes to the vet and believe me they don't look forward to it. She turns into a feral wild cat that fights tooth and nail to save her claws. Then she pees on them.

The only way we can cut smooch's is my dad holds up up under his front legs when hes tired and i clip them

with Sooty he pretty much just flicks his claws out for them to be cut he loves it

That's the method I use to give pills. I lock my ankles together so they can't back out and just tilt their head up, pry open the mouth and pop the pill in.
