Going to do some volunteer work

It is for a lady, "Sue" (not her real name), that I know from her job at a plasma donating center I go to. She knows I am CNA. An out of work one with no experience. Her Grandmother just got released from a facility she was at because they are not a long term care place. Sue's Mom is there 24/7 now taking care of her, but is exhausted from it. The Grandmother has bad nights and does not sleep. They can't afford to pay someone, and in this busy week and a bit before the holiday things are quite hectic. They need someone to help get by right now.
I agreed to go and help out for the week. I Think it will be a good experience for me, it will be the first time I fly solo so to speak, no teacher to fall back on. Sue's Mom will be there though, I wont be alone, though I am nervous. It wil be during the day, no set hours. The not getting paid thing, well, that does not thrill me I won't lie, but they need help and I need experience.
I am going over there tomorrow, I will let you all know how it goes!

Good luck with it! The experience will definitely be a good thing. Also it's cool you are helping out someone who really need it right now. I hope it goes well!

No good deed, or even the thought of one, goes un-punshed.
Woke up yesterday early, around 6am, all ready to let my nerves calm a bit after waking up and head out to help out. Though scared, I was jazzed up about it! I got out of bed and went into the hall to the bathroom, my slippers got soggy, my feet hit a puddle. I was about to yell at the cat, though she ever would piddle right in the middle of the floor, when I saw that my entire hallway and the bathroom were an inch deep in water.
A pipe had clogged from tree roots (that is the explaination I got) and overflowed everything before a pipe burst from the pressure build up.
Lovely.
My closet, where I have a lot of things stored, a soggy wreck. All just bad, no other way to say it without swearing a lot.
I felt terrible telling the lady's Mom, who is just so tired and is not in great health herself, I could not come out, she was so nice I felt even worse. I know not in my control this happened, but damn. Just damn.
