As I said before, it's the hypocracy of the clean image pitchman. Golf is a game of personal integrity unlike any other sport. A golfer counts his own strokes (with the help of his caddy) and is personally responsible for calling his own penalty strokes too.

If and when he goes back on tour, you can bet his teammates and competitors will be watching him closely.

Very, very rare do i buy a newspaper because i hate the press myself. It's just unfortunate that he's the "celebrity" like he is because that's what they have to expect

So he's taking time away from golf to try to save his marriage and family. Good for him. I still don't know why she would stick with him after all this has come out, including breaking the law for sex (paying escort services/prostitutes), but I guess that's just me.

So why hasn't this been brought up here? It's in the news, but not plastered like the politicians. Is that just because his profession doesn't make him make judgement calls on morality? Is this really any different than Elliot Spitzer??
I think it's just as bad as when politicians do it, because our children look to these athletes as role models. It's bad enough they get paid millions (billions) for playing a game, but worse when they can't be bothered to live up to the image they've tried to create.

Personally, I don't care what he (or anyone) does, but neither do I think he should continue to be paid billions to be a spokesperson and a role model.

The media is horrible because we are horrible. If people didn't want to hear all this garbage, we wouldn't be subjected to it day and night, because the ratings wouldn't be there.

You and I detest the tabloid, rag, media for the same reason and because of the same person.

It is bad enough what the media has put out there about Tiger and it is true.

What I find the most reprehensible is when the tabloid puts out pure, unadulterated LIES about GOOD people to trash them.

Seriously that has got to be one of the best quotes of 2009!

I actually did start this thread with the intent of discussing how this is the same or different than politicians who are paid and often paying (for their) ladies on the public's dime. But there has been a couple of very interesting points brought up.

One is that we (joe/josie public) assume that if he had 14 affairs it must be because he has a sex addiction. Granted, we only learned of such an affliction a few years ago, but it explains so much when we don't want to have a public figure, or when a public figure doesn't want to, take responsibility for their own transgressions.

The other, just as logical IMO, assertion that has been put forward in this thread is that this really started after Tiger's father passed on. My own not-necessarily-logical-jump led me to think that once he didn't have a parental figure with him at all (or most) times, Tiger did what a lot of young people do - he went insane with the freedom. College is usually when young people get their first real taste of freedom, and it is also associated with heavy drinking, drug use, and loose moral behavior. Tiger couldn't go boozing or doing drugs but he most certainly could take advantage of the multitude of ladies throwing themselves at him since he no longer had his father there to ensure that he didn't.

One would think if Tiger was out boozing it up or had some kind of substance abuse it was adversely effect his golf game, wouldn't you? I mean if he was doing it to excess.

That "sexual addiction" thing is so lame. Another scam for shrinks to treat and make millions from people's lack of self control.

I think only someone with a sex addiction could possibly be attracted to the kind of women that have come forward as alleged mistresses. They are just so unattractive and gross. It may not be that sex addiction is a real "disease" but it's certainly a mental problem, it isn't as simple as he couldn't keep it in his pants. Some guys have 1-2 mistresses, they are still jerks but it isn't abnormal, it is just lack of self control- but with this many, it isn't the lack of self control that is the problem, the problem is that he had the need to find all these women to start affairs with to begin with because a normal healthy person wouldn't do that.

Didn't one of his mistresses say she was with him dressed only in her panties when he got word of his father's death? If that is true, then his behavior started prior to his father's death.

Personally, I think the only kind of illness he has is gross stupidity. Because he is rich and famous he believes the rules that govern the way the rest of us live our lives don't apply to him, and he stupidly thought he could do whatever he wanted without being found out. He should have taken a lesson from David Letterman and the numerous politicians that have been caught and their families destroyed. But his own narcissism blinded him to reality. His fortune may or may not survive, but his image and reputation have suffered a huge setback. He has no one to blame but himself.

How much do you charge for a one-hour therapy session?

Well, it doesn't have to be sex addiction exactly...my impression is that most guys, when they're on the road away from their wife/SO, have a self-care routine to make up the lack...well...being a golfer, he probably had to be really careful not to strain his wrist and arm.

Guys like that should NEVER get married in the first place.

Elin moved back to where she originally came from [Sweden?]. Wonder how the shared custody will work out now?? Hope she takes him to the cleaners although I'm sure there must have been a pre-nup.

Found it interesting that the other golfer who introduced Elin to Tiger was really upset with himself that he had played a part in their getting together.

Tiger was stupid to think paying "hush money" would provide him any sort of protection. File under "D" for money down the drain (lots$ of it too) and just plain dumb. A woman willing to take "hush money" = a woman of questionable integrity.
