CFA Show Dec 11-12, Monroe

Not a good day for me. Feedback I got from the judges was that they liked her expression and body, but didn't like her coat, contrast and attitude. She was very hissy, but only to other cats. She loves people.

Got 8 second places out of only two maus.

Their recommendation is to breed her to a stud with better contrast and lighter coat, and hope for improvement in the kittens. Everyone I talk to says they'd have no hesitation in recommending me breeding her. Surprised me, I had thought that you would only breed granded cats.

Not all the time - depends on their backgrounds and what they produce. With Ocicats there are not a lot of female grands - mainly champions. The females tend to come in and out of heat a lot at an early age and most breeders cannot keep weight on them.

However, if they come out of good lines, most of the females will breed quality and the offspring are hopefully shown to grands. This is why you see Grand males and rarely Grand females (unless in the altered classes).

So if her background is good and you put her with the right male, you can wind up with better kittens.

Personally I prefer to see champion and grands, but if the females have proven to produce grand material, then it won't matter if they stay home and be good mommys instead of competing in the rings. This is why you need to really research the lines - paper doesn't always tell the entire story.

Do not feel bad that is what Cleo does and it has cost her finals.
Some judges are nice about her acting bad and other judges are not nice at all.
Can you stop showing her for a while like I was advised to do with Cleo?
She likes people but hates other cats.
Good luck to you at your next show.
