I had two border collies when my daughter's cat let us know that he was really my cat and only my cat. Darcy, my girl collie is eight and has had, up until a year ago, a life long fear of cats after being beaten up as a puppy on two seperate occassions by a couple of nasty girls that belonged to relatives. (Everyone else said they were nasty, not my own personal opinion
). Because she had her brother (littermate) Devin to play with she would, for the most part, just pretend the cats didn't exist and hang out with him. They had a silly game that they played, stamping their feet at each other - like an over exhuberant play bow. But now Devin is gone. I had to have him put down a few weeks ago and Darcy has been missing him terribly.

Eyvan, the cat, is the sweetest boy though. He has been deliberately going and laying down with her, purring at her and even making attempts to wash her ears which makes her highly nervous. But the cool thing is that the last little while we've seen her trying to play the same silly game with Eyvan that she used to play with her brother. She's feeling much better, which is good to see. While he can't figure out what the dog is doing when she stamps her feet at him, he's still so patient. I have never in my life met a cat quite like him.

that's so sweet. Poor Darcy, she must really miss her brother after all she had him around her whole life.

Darcy is doing much better and I really think Eyvan has been a major help in this although he still makes her nervous sometimes.

The other morning Eyvan jumped up on the bed as usual and after he said a very loud purry good morning to me he went to Darcy. I have a thick blanket over my window so I couldn't see what was happening but when Darcy made a tiny growl, I told her to be nice and turned the light on to see what was happening. There was Eyvan rubbing his whole head all over Darcy's face, pressing his forehead into her eyes and purring his little heart out. She never made another sound after I told her to be nice, instead she just lay there and let him rub on her after which he laid down beside her and washed her ear out, and she let him, very big step for her.

We've noticed more and more that she is seeking him out juring the day and trying ot play with him. He's such a sweetheart, even though he has no idea what a play bow is he just purrs and loves on her. She's even letting the kitten sleep her on the bed now. I came in the other day to find the baby snuggled into Darcy's tummy hair with an arm wrapped around one of Darcy's legs. It was so cute and totally remarkable since Darcy has always seemed to believe the kitten was the spawn of evil.

Aww, I can just picture them sleeping together. That must have been the most precious sight!

This was too cute, then I'll let this thread die.

When I woke up this morning, Eyvan's weird cat power told him I was up and he came trotting to the bedroom and laid down on my chest. Darcy rolled over and laid her head across my cheek right in front of Eyvan's purring face. Then he gently rested his head on hers and there we were one big stack of loving each other.

With all he has done with Darcy it makes me think of that Bible verse - Perfect love casts out all fear, it certainly has in her case.
