New kitten introduced to older cat

I had to put down my male cat Sasha on Dec 7th. It totally broke my heart to pieces that pain is almost unbearable. When Sasha died it left his companion Bailee (female) cat sad too. So today I brought home a little eight week old kitty whom I am calling Charlie. My Bailee girl is not all too happy and is hissing a growling at this poor cute little kitten. I am trying to play between the two and getting the kitten close and closer to her and if she hisses I gentle tell her no and if doesn't I am praising her big time. Any other help to get Bailee over the territorial behavior would be greatly appreciated. As is the kitten use her litter box even though I had one for the kitten and Bailee hisses when I put her in there. Hope I don't star having any litter problems with Bailee. Please help... Thank you Matara

Welcome to TCS!

Most cats will not readily accept new additions. You can find a good article on how to introduce a new kitty to the resident(s) here.

If Bailee doesn't like the kitten, it is best to separate them until she gets more used to his scent & the idea he is in the house.
